Weird recalculations with latest map set

With the latest map set I get weird recalculations. I'll be driving along on a section where I'm supposed to drive 56 miles (just an example) on such and such highway. Right in the middle of the section the unit will say "recalculating" and do it one or two times in a row and then settle down back to the same route. I've never had this happen with other map sets. Why should it recalculate a couple of times in the middle of a long stretch of road with no turns for a long time to come?

never had it happen to me with the new NA 2011.10 mapset

I just got back from a 1,850 mile trip with the new NA 2011.10 mapset and never had it happen to me.

The only time I had a recalc is when I intentionally drove off the route that was set.

reception?

It could be caused by temporary "position drift" due to satellite geometry or reception. If the drift is bad enough, it will think you are off the route and recalculate to get you back on.

It may be my imagination, but it seems to me that the accuracy on all 3 of my GPS devices for the last several weeks has not been as good as it used to be. I have noticed on my Delorme LT-40 that it is seldom able to lock on to the WAAS satellite (#138). The Garmins don't indicate whether or not they are geting a WAAS lock.

Happened to me

That has happened to me in the past when satellite reception was low in the hills in Missouri.

Simulation Mode

If ever you can remember where the recalculation happened you can place a via point just before and then simulate the route. If it's a map problem it'll also happen in this mode.

Cheers

I seen this myself over the same period. I have a feeling the sun's flares are a good deal of the problem. And, it'll probably get worse over the next months.
