Voice Default

For some reason every now and then the voice on my 885 goes back to Jill instead of staying with Jack. Is there a way to make Jack the default?

Get rid of Jill wink

Voice

If I delete Jill how do I get her back if I should want her in 6 months ?

Voice Default

Move Jill to a file on your computer. Later on you can move her back if you want to use her.

same thing

The same thing happens on my 855. After this happened two or three times I started thinking about it and it seems that when I don't use it for awhile and the battery goes dead or almost dead is when it happens. Lately I've been using it quite often and it hasn't happened in quite awhile.

I'm thinking maybe Garmin has it programed in the firmware that Jill is the default voice.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

BACKUP BACKUP

Backup your GPS by following this procedure:
A. Connect your GPS to your computer using a USB cable. Wait for the GPS to show it is connected and ready to receive files (Black screen with an ICON at the bottom showing it is connected to the computer.) Your computer should alert you that it has found a new removable device.
B. Open Windows Explorer and look for a drive named “Garmin Nuvi”.
C. Now, left click on your C:\ Drive.
D. Move your cursor into the right pane and right click in a blank space of the pane. Select New > Folder and type in a name like Garmin Backup 2010mmdd, where mm is this month and dd is today.
E. Go back the Gamin Nuvi drive and left click on it.
F. Move your cursor into the right pane and right click anywhere.
G. Do a CNTL-A to select all the files; then do a CNTL-C to copy all the files.
H. Return to the folder you created in Step D. above. Left click on it to select it; there will be no files in it; then, left click anywhere in the right pane and do a CNTL-V to paste all the files from the Garmin.

Once you have a good backup, you can return your unit to original values. In this case, you could delete "Jill" and later get it back.

Did we mention that everyone ought to do a backup???

Making a backup as jgermann suggests is the best advice you can get before you start deleting or modifying files within your unit.

It should be noted that you can also download all the voices you've previously erased by using WebUpdater.
