Sudden Reboot

Two days in a row at the exact same location my Garmin 855 does a reboot. It is at the intersection of I5 and I 705 going southbound in downtown Tacoma, WA. This is the location that you really need turns and lane information. The reboot takes about 20 seconds.
What would cause the receiver to reboot at this exact location?
Other than this the 855 has been excellent.
Have you tried
Have you tried a full reboot? Take the battery out and reinstall. This will force the nuvi to reload its software and all your music/poi files. An alternate to removing the battery is to hold the power button in the off position for about 15 seconds.

Map version?
What map version do you have? I was not able to reproduce this problem in simulation mode on my 855 with map version 2011.10.
I noted that if I routed southbound on I5, there was no lane guidance, but if I routed south on 7 toward 38th St, I did get lane guidance.

Your thinking this might be a software issue?
Interesting that it occurs at the exact same location and direction.
Could it be a mapping issue?
I have fully rebooted the unit a number of times but not since this anomaly appeared. I will full reboot but I do not know when I will get to that area again.....
re: Sudden Reboot
In our household we have four Nuvis. One of them enters the "Bermuda Triangle" in Livermore, California. Mine functions just fine in the same area. The only difference between units are the maps in use. All units are updated to the latest software updates AND are the same GPS model.
I can't offer any solution nor advise but I have seen the problem you describe with my own eyes.
we have to start somewhere
This is one of those issues that can best be resolved - or at least diagnosed by elimination. Rebooting is the easiest and first step.
It is very possible it is a map problem, I had a problem where my route would be running fine and at the same point every time it would say "Recalculating" while staying on the line. This continued until a map update. But eliminate the easy stuff first. That way if you call to complain you can can then tell them "Start on page 3. I've done all the easy stuff." You can try simulating a route through the area after rebooting and see what happens. It could be a POI that's causing the problem, so rename the POI.GPI files to something other than GPX or GPI. Reboot and try the simulation again.

Cause
It could be software, map error or some other combination. Do you have any POI's, custom POI icons and/or alerts that might be triggered in that area?
If the reboot doesn't work, you might want to try a complete hard reset. DorkusNimrod gives the procedure here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/26136

Reboot
I will try the hard reboot and then the simulation along that route to that poi.
I am not going to make this any more complicated than that. I seldom go into that area and it would not be worth it to follow any further.
If this issue would come up again in another area then we could take it further.
You have to pick your battles and I dont think this is one I want to fight.
I will let you know what happens.
Reboot
I have the 885t and it reboots itself frequently. No rhime or reason as to when or where it will do it.
In the cradle or out seems to make no difference.
Simulation Shortcut
To save time simulating a particular portion of a route how do I relocate my vehicle closer to that portion of the route?
I remember seeing this explanation once but can not find it now.
Reboot
I have the same problem with my 885t. I also get an MSN error (missing a required file) ever 3 weeks or so. I have installed all of the updates and the problems keep on occurring. I never have this problem with my 350.
Setting simulation location.

To go into simulation mode ... Tools - Settings - System - Simulator. To set location ... Where to - select a location with any method - view map - set location.

Same
I have a 755T that is doing basically the same thing. It randomly reboots but when it has restarted I noticed that when I touch wiew map it is still on the select route and at the correct place. Strange and it just started with last map update. Maybe the next update in july or August will solve this wierd behavior.
Nuvi 750 and 755T
Hard reset.
JFCTexas, if you haven't done a hard reset of your 755T since the map update, it is worth a try. It may resolve the problems you are having. See the link in my post above.

My 855 has always spontaneously rebooted every month or so. The reboots don’t seem to be strongly correlated with map version (I’ve had four different map versions) or location (different location each time). It’s more likely to reboot if I’m navigating while using the MP3 player. I usually just remove the battery for a minute or two and it works fine. I haven’t ever cleared the “user data”. Since I use the downloaded tracks to keep track of mileage for business travel, I will remove the battery before a trip as a precautionary measure. In addition, my “Lifetime Traffic” tells me periodically that I have to “update” the firmware. A battery removal fixes that also. And yes, my StreetPilot 330 never spontaneously rebooted. Other than the spontaneous reboots, the 855 works well.

Looks like my problem may be software related.
I removed battery for a hard reboot.
After setting up the simulation per the above procedure we simulated the drive through the exact same spot of sudden reboot and sure enough the simulation confirmed the sudden reboot! The receiver went into reboot and came out of the simulation mode.
This location is I5 southbound while exiting on exit 133 onto WA 7 / I705 (to Tacoma City Center). Can anybody confirm this on their unit?

As stated above, I do not get the reboot on my 855 when simulating this route. I have map 2011.10 and software 4.70.
Just removing the battery does not do a hard reset. See the information in the link given above for the hard reset procedure.
If the hard reset does not correct the problem, you could try updating your firmware. If that doesn't resolve it, the problem may be in the 2010.10 version of the map.

Odd on the reboot -- with it
Odd on the reboot -- with it being in the same location, is it perhaps always the same distance (time-wise) from home? So maybe it'll reboot in, say, 10 minutes, and that just happens to be the same spot? Thinking maybe a battery issue.
Check Your Custom POI Icons
24x24 is the maximun. Less can cause some units to hang, others to reboot.
That also explains why it happens in the same place... trying to display that "bad" icon located within spitting distance of a complex interchange.
One can only hope that NavTeq didn't include an oversized icon with the map update.

I changed the battery with a new one (Old one would not hold a charge very long) and updated software.
Then ran simulation again. Everything was fine!
I then reran simulation and the reboot again occurred, same place.
Unless this becomes a consistent issue I am not going to worry.
