This part is pretty much a joke......as they seem to be struggling just to produce ONE update per YEAR.

Company Merger

Hoping with the new company Merger things will change, new map updates are coming out in June (So They Say).

They also added some new models to the line up.
But I'm really looking forward to new Maps.

Lifetime Maps no good if no map updates

I agree with you ka1167! I recently purchased a TomTom because there has not been a map update since my Maestro 4350 began being sold in October, 2008. Although LOstn6tz reports that Magellan will have a map update in June, I think 20 months is just too long when TomTom and Garmin seem to update quarterly.

By the way the TomTom I purchased came with Lifetime traffic and maps. Even if Magellan got up to speed on the map updates I probally would not buy a Magellan in the future since it appears all models released since the 4350/4370 do not support custom POIs.

Good to hear. I didn't know that some Magellan can't do custom

POI. Thanks.

SD Card

Any idea if these will be the SD Card only updates, or actually update the maps on the unit?

No Absolutely Certain about Custom POIs

I'm not certain about the lack of support for custom POIs. Note I do not own any of these models. I do not think the models since the 4350/4370 do support custom POIs based on the following:
1. Custom POIs not documented in the User Manual. (However the 4350/4370 DID support costom POIs and it was not well documented.)
2. Reviews that state the unit does not support custom POIs.
3. Many user's on forums asking about custom POIs for these units with no answers or other users stating they don't know either.

Alan

4250

I have the 4250 which was the last model to support Custom POI's according to MAgellan Support.

What models ???

What models does that cover ??
I think that Content Manager only works with the Roadmate series.

And then, what size is the file?
Seems like I remember that my last update was HUGE....and might take a LONG time, even with a "high speed" connection.

I think it is a RIP to charge the same inflated price as before and then make you download it yourself.

Not sure that is progress.

older gps's?

So they have completely dropped support for the 4250, and older GPS's? Definitely the last time I'll buy a Magellan product.

I gave up on Magellans since

I gave up on Magellans since I too waited years for map updates. Good luck waiting for new maps. Also since you can't add POI files the Magellans was not for me.

Wait

Updates for older units may still be coming. They don't always release them at the same time.

Or it could just mean that THIS map update hasn't be processed for that hardware line yet.

I was somewhat amazed when they decided to call the latest Roadmate a Maestro 4700; makes no sense to me.
