Quoted text...

"Solid State Drives can access any location on the drive in the same time. This is one of the main advantages over hard drives. This also means that there is no need to defragment a Solid State Drive ever. These drives have actually been designed to write data evenly in all sectors of the drive which the industry is calling wear leveling. Each sector of a Solid State Drive has a limited number of writes before it cannot be overwritten anymore. (this is a theoretical limit which cannot be reached in work environments)

If you did defragment your Solid State Disk you can rest assured that you did not harm it in any way."

All the worlds indeed a stage and we are merely players. Rush

To Frag or Defrag, that is the question

I have always been a BIG fan of fraging. I want to know how can I frag Osama Bin Laden and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ?

I love the smell of Napalm in the morning.

Just because it hasn't been done yet (fraging Osama Bin Laden and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad), doesn't mean it was impossible to begin with.

Not for me

No way I'm doing it. recalculate takes only a couple seconds as it is, I'm not taking the chance of creating a paper weight for a couple of seconds.

Flash Drive Internal Fragmentation

www.anandtech.com has a number of good articles describing the internal workings of SSDs such as:
http://anandtech.com/print/2829
The articles deal primarily with SSDs in the Windows environment, but the issues are the same under different operating systems.
