Garmin Mexico map...2011.10

I was wondering why after I loaded the 2011.10 map that I had Mexico but no POI's. Whenever I searched a city and went to points of interest it always brought up places in the U.S. I could go to cities and bring up towns but no street data or POI"s. I got the base map version evidently. I could see some highways. Garmin told me they included the Mexico map on this release and only those with Mexico on their units would get the full blown version. Evidently when you update the next time you will get the full version since Mexico is now on the unit. Any input would be appreciated.

Base map version

I'll have to check this, but I'm almost sure that base map version, with some details (like Mexico City), was included with previous versions 2010.30 & 2010.40. Difference is that this time we've got detailed map for the whole Mexico, including POI's.

I wonder if you don't have enough space on the 1490T to load Mexico? With 2011.10, I got full Mexico detail including POI's on both my 755T and 855. They both have 4 GB of internal memory. Don't the 1xxx models only have 2 GB?

That could be....

That could be true but the unit had 2010.10 on it and I upgraded it to 2011.10 so it may have been missing the Mexico maps from the previous releases. I will call Garmin again to verify. I am sure I have enough space as I have over 327 million mb left.

I agree, that seems like it should be enough free space. 2011.10 (with Mexico) is about 100 MB larger than 2010.40 (without Mexico) on my 755.

A 2689LMT in both our cars that we love... and a Nuvi 660 with Lifetime Maps that we have had literally forever.... And a 2011 Ford Escape with Nav System that is totally ignored!

2011.10 - Mexico

I have a 265WT (2GB). With 2011.10 came much more complete Mexico maps along with POI's.

The previous maps that I've had since I bought it in late 2008 showed basic land and water masses, a few major roads, a single "dot" to indicate major cities, and no poi's.

Now it appears to display the same level of detail ("all" roads, towns, cities, etc...) as the US map.

Free update

I talked to Garmin software and was told the free updates when you buy a new unit only gives you the base map of Mexico. If you had already purchased the Mexico map or lifetime maps you got the whole shamolee.....The only way to get the full Mexico map is to buy it or buy the lifetime maps.....

Mexico.

Thanks farrissr for sharing that information from Garmin. It helps explain some of the inconsistancies different users are seeing with this update.

Check the 2011.1 maps in mapsource on your pc. On my lifetime maps, Mexico is definitely included, with POIs and all. If it is there, then you can select it and download to a SD card where it will work on your GPSr.

If you have already downloaded and installed the 2011.10 map you will not be able to get the full blown Mexico map until 2011.20 is out. You cannot delete 2011.10 and reinstall it after you activate the lifetime map card. Confusing but that is what the software department told me. You can activate the lifetime map card and attach it to your Nuvi but it won't tell you a map is available until the 2011.20 comes out since you already have the most current map.
