Just check and nothing....

have 360 and 765t and no map updates available.

My friend came by with his

My friend came by with his nuvi865 and show me the new map update, i notice new pois in my area and also see more street name while on route. I compare my 865 with 2010.40 and his 2011.10 and there are differences. I cant find it on Garmin Web Site. My friend has lifetime map from garmin.

Not really much difference

Not really much difference anyway

.

How do you know this? Perhaps there may not be in your area, but there may be in mine. Who knows? I'll have to load it first.

CNNA 2011.10

I've had the CNNA 2011.10 gmapsupp.img file since 4/12/10.

I loaded it in my Garmin 255W on a 2gb sd card and it works like a charm. It shows new interchange roads near my house that were not on the 2010.40 maps.

.

Is this an official (read legal) version from Garmin? I just checked myDashboard, and nada.

Same here with my 250 hooked up to laptop, 2010.40 is the latest when checked on my dashboard

I find the "rumour mill" about a new Garmin update somewhat humourous! grin Every few days someone asks when the next update will occur and 30 - 50 posts appear. One third of these posts will crap on Garmin because the upgrade will likely NOT contain the changes in their neighbourhood; one third will crap on Garmin because the company does not properly communicate upgrade release dates; and one third will crap on Garmin because their 60 day download limit for their new GPS expires soon.

And half of these people will download the update within minutes of it being released by Garmin! I'm not being critical of anyone - but isn't human nature entertaining?

I also get a kick out

I also get a kick out of:

Oh, I downloaded the 2010.40 update for free and then the next day the 2011.10 came out.

Think about it - Yes, there probably are some changes from one to the other but, for the most part, they're pretty close to where driving around you'd be hard-pressed to see any real differences.

At least one 2010.40 change

My business partner had an interesting update with 2010.40. He has a Nuvi 680 with lifetime subscription. He and his wife have a townhouse in Stuart, FL that was built three or so years ago (along with the rest of the development). The neighborhood just showed up on the 2010.40 map update. Prior to that, it is just empty space on the GPS. Until this update, he had to navigate to a nearby shopping center in order to get home if using the GPS.

No update available

Maybe

Maybe Garmin got smart and is only updating specific models - a few at a time.

This would certainly decrease the load on the server. When all the users here read that an update is available (for any model). The server(s) takes a very big hit downloading a lot of 2+ Gig files in a very short time. Maybe that's why so many here complain about the long time to download and install the maps and this could decrease the total time.

Don't forget that there are probably a lot of "Visitors" (never registered) that just read and never comment - AKA "Lurkers" - and then jump to the Garmin site ASAP to get the new map when they read that it is available.

Time will tell if that's the new game plan.

why would Garmin name and

why would Garmin name and release a map update calling it "2011" when we've just started 2010 ???

Seems really dumb to call it 2011 vs 2010.50 ??

What will be released in the late fall - 2012 ??

.

How true. They name it 1 year ahead, and it's a year or 2 behind! I chock it up to marketing.

If that's the case, I hope they remember to send out emails notifying of a new map update.

Nice!

I'm relatively new to the forum, but I agree with your observation.

Not very good stats

Hmmmm
That leaves 10 percent that are happy campers, and those half that download within the first hour are trying to get their monies worth since they did pay for the updates either with a new unit or nuMaps.

But remember, four release a year not necessarily quarterly. Garmin still has eight months for 3 more releases, including the one everyone is chomping at the bit for.

So be patient! smile

They released the first version of 2010 about this time in 2009 so being a year ahead isn't new.

It also isn't uncommon. Just off the top there are at least 2 automobile models that have been out for at least a month and they are both 2011 models - Hyundai Sonata and Kia Sorento

Funny how just cash-strapped manufacturers do this. Ever heard of BMW, or Mercedes doing this? Uh, no. wink

Yet Ford, the only one of the "big 3" not to take bailout money, has two 2011 models out (Fiesta and Super Duty Truck). And Toyota has the 2011 Sienna van although that may not be the best example wink

It doesn't necessarily mean it has the new 2011 maps. I bought a 2007 Lexus with Nav in May of 2006 but it had the 2005 map that came out in December of 2005. December is when the new Lexus DVD's come out. I cannot speak for other manufacturers.

Fraud?

Also on other forums, it seems that people got 2011.10 update. Some people are even selling the map with SD card, but no official announcement.

It's wired. Is the SD card fraud?

Apparently, 2011.10 is available now on SD card.

This is the full City Nav NA on SD card, not the map update download that most of us want.

Here's an interactive 2011.10:

This is no longer a rumour

This is no longer a rumour but reality, For all who think that it is too early for 2011.10, this number is just a reference and nothing to do with year. Also Garmin is doing quarterly updates. So there would not be a 2010.50.
Also please dont kill the messenger !.

update

This is quit a surprise for me. I have lifetime updates for my 370 and April fools day I tried to upgrade to 2010 but the Garmin wouldn't take it. I went on vacation for two weeks with a 2009 map. While traveling I emailed my problem to Garmin and they replied with the solution. I did not want to hit a snag while traveling so I upgraded to 2010 when I got home on the 17th. I now learn that there is 2011 upgrade so as I write this I am downloading it and then will upgrade my Europe map which is also new.

Downloading it right know from Garmin!

It is finally out. I am downloading it know!

My Update Report Is Included

The report I made to NAVTEQ in December 2008 and was verified and closed in December 2009 is in the 2011.10 update! Sweet!

Now will I be able to get 2011.10 as my free update for my 765T or are they still pushing 2010.40?
