Error message when loading Extra POI Loader

I need some advice.

I downloaded the latest version of the Extra POI Editor and successfully installed it on my desktop system. I've run the program and it works great.

I then downloaded the same file to my laptop computer, but when I try to run it on the laptop I get an error message that reads "Component 'RICHTX32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

Does anyone know what this error message means and what I might do to correct it? You all are so Knowledgeable, I'm sure someone will be able to give me some advice.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, use the installer. Sometimes, I wonder if I should not force all of you to use the installer. That's the only way to ensure all the libraries are there...

Turbo

wouldn't hurt

What would it hurt?
Just few seconds in download time. Does anyone still use dial up (yuck). It would eliminate the install problems and questions.

Well, it kind of solved the problem

First, I want to thank all of you for your advice. I hadn't seen the link for Troubleshooting when I first looked at the web site. When I followed your instructions, I now can run the program on my laptop.

But now I get several other error messages when I open a POI file for editing and eventually I get knocked off and the program closes.

I'm going to try to reinstall the program to see if that solves the problem and will report tomorrow (Monday) whether my problems are solved or whether I need some further advice.

Thanks for your help so far. Keep checking this forum topic for my update.

It would make it easier if you could put the installer next to download for Extra Poi Editor.Easy to miss the first time around.

Error messages are now resolved

Well, after removing my old copy of the Extra POI Editor and downloading the file again, it seems like my error message problem has been resolved. Thanks for the help everyone, and especially to TurboCCC for your work.

Now I need to "play" with the program to see what it can do for me. The one thing I'm hoping to do is to save my .csv files as .gpx files so that I can scroll to more Extra POI items when I use the "search along the route" setting. I found that I don't see the new POI descriptions for POI's saved as .csv when I use the Next Arrow if I use that search setting.

Again, thanks everyone.

Noted. I'll add it soon.

ocx not properly regitered

missing the required OCX

Hello turboccc, Installing EPE on my Windows 7 x64 laptop seemed to be impossible until I realized that the Troubleshooting section skips over a small but important point.

Since I was missing MSCOMCTL.OCX, I took the question - "Are you missing the required OCX file?"
to mean that I needed to use the v524 installer.

While other .OCX files exist in v524; the missing MSCOMCTL.OCX exists only in v470...

Once I figured that out installation using v470 was a piece of cake.

I mention this because I think there might be many GPS aficionados that might not be very computer
literate. I would hate to see them give up on your most excellent program before having the opportunity to use it.

I have found nothing that comes close to the usefulness of Extra_POI_Editor - Bravo!

Thanks poi_nagrivator!

I know the installer sucks on Win 7. I gave it a few shots on different computers. Every time I make a new installer I think it will be ok, but it seems there differences between the different Win 7 installations and there is always something missing. It is really giving me a headache. This is happening because I programed this with Visual Basic 6 and it is not supported anymore. So, no special installer for Win 7.

I am glad that you like EPE though. Thanks you for your feedback. I'll give it another shot maybe during the coming holidays (aka Christmas because Turkey day is already gone in Canada... LOL!)
