Fastest Max Speed

Hi all,

New to the forum - love it so far.
Just bought a Nuvi 680 and was pokin around and came across the airline post.

Thought it might be fun for people to post their max speed attained for braggin rights and all. Did a search for this kind of post and didn't find anything so I appologize in advance if this topic has been started already.

So far mine is 51.4 mph, but it will be increasing.

hey i have a question

i bought a Mio C320 gps and i was wondering is there anyway i can look at pictures i dont want to listen to mp3??

Max Speed

Forget that one time Max Speed....can you guys keep it going at that speed? I happened to glance at my screen while driving up to catch a train in Sacramento on Tuesday (btw, the max speed on the train was a wimpy 83). It indicated that I had an average moving speed of 641 MPH over a distance of 7454 miles. No airplane flights in that either! Unfortunately at the same time the screen said that I had a Max speed of only 78.7. And the reality is that I hadn't driven more than a few hundred miles since buying this gps (before the train trip...that added a couple thousand).

Max Air Speed

Well, I had 897 max on my Nuvi 350 on a trip from Cincinnati to Milwaukee. I figured it was a glitch since we were flying against the jet stream, a Falcon 50 maxes out at 0.8 mach (I think) and I didn't hear a big crack of the sound barrier and the pilots yelling 'yee haa!'

So, I reset it to be fair and hit 600 MPH. That was good but I saw 603 MPH right before the reset took... Nuts.

Yeah 897 seems a bit high

I never flown very far, but mine always reach between 500 and 6xx mph.

Currently, it is set to 522mph.

I got 923 MPH which I think could be signal lost and regain.
Normally I got 537 MPH. It was interesting to see all lakes, rivers and airports passing by.

You're confused, Joel

That money you paid to the state was a fine, not a sales price. And that piece of paper was a ticket, not a receipt.

Well....

With my 5er and truck... I did get up to 68 mph max speed....

And I did play around with my Nuvi... as someone said... you can play with the satellite antenna (if you have one) and get some pretty fast speeds. I played around with mine and got 885 mph by turning off the satellite and then moving down the road and then flipping the satellite antenna on.

but for me... 60 mph when I am loaded with the 5er is very comfortable...

See you guys when I get there...

speed

Land(barge) Speed Records

All I can attest to is my 2000 GMC truck (with speed limiter removed) hit 105mph twice according to the GPS, the speedometer only goes to 100mph. Didn't feel the need to go faster. The stock limiter is set at 98mph. Anyway, 4x4 trucks aren't built for speed... Best 1/4 mile time with all terrain tires and 5,000lbs of mass was 16.66 seconds. Had never drag raced before (don't worry, it was on a legal track in Houston) and each run was getting better and lower times. The max MPH was on a local road near my house, not the drag strip.

Oh yeah, drove a new 2008 Chevy Impala SS at 120mph in Florida. That car moves! The car still had some juevo's to go faster but I didn't.

446 mph on land

is what my 330 is at,dont know how it got there cuz my work truck barely does 75mph and my personal truck only goes 128 max!

666mph LAX to ABQ

FInally got a window seat so the C-550 would pick up a signal.

Fastest ground speed

I managed to lock my Nuvi up the other day. I was pushing buttons in rapid succession switching from screen to screen and, all of a sudden, the thing locked hard. I had to turn it off and back on again to make it respond. When it came back on I had a max speed of well over 400 mph. I can't remember exactly but it was something like 432 mph. Obviously a bogus reading but pretty amazing since I was in very slow traffic at the time.

746mph on a Trip

Obviously the GPS lost sync somewhere during the flight. Definitely lots of fun utilizing the GPS during flights. Funny thing was that all during the flight the speed read a reasonable number. I must of dozed off when the Max "glitch" was hit.

Also it was very interesting to see that most of the flight followed major interstates. Never realized that fact.

Weird Bug

fwiw - I've managed to get mine into triple digits pulling out of my driveway while acquiring satellites. My driveway isn't very conducive to making that a realistic max speed.

308MPH - GROUND!

Is it unsafe?

Does anyone know if there really is a safety reason for turning off electronic devices such as a GPS while flying? Is it actually possible for my GPS to affect the planes' electronics and cause the pilots to make an error?

It was explained to me, and I don't know how true it is but was told by a United pilot that the only time a pilot actually controls a plane these days is during takeoff and landing. The electronics control the flight by destination. That would contradict the fact that it's OK to have your electronics on when your above 10,000 feet and the planes electronics are controlling the plane.
I believe one of our members here is a pilot. Maybe he can chime in and verify this.

I don't

know why but on my RV trip to the "left" coast for the summer, two weeks ago, my Nuvi 650 stated my Max Speed was 261! grin Really, and my son who says I'm a slow driver cause old VW buses pass me going UP hill, was really impressed!! Anybody know why the Nuvi would say that? I haven't reset it as yet, it's kinda neat seeing that number!

Drive stupid, then I agree with the above.

The rabbit (or bird dog) are only good for stationary radar if we leave it on, or you happen to be behind someone else when we turn it on. I prefer the Lidar, After I get a speed on you I will point it at your windows and sweep it. If your brake lights come on I know you have the detector and I write the ticket accordingly. Vascar is even better, just a fancy stopwatch, nothing to set a detector off.

and the CB's are only good after we come out of our hiding places.. May favorite thing to do is work around an interchange. I will randomly change highways and directions just to confuse the CB'ers. Or I will jump on the radio and give mis-information...

mph

In a commercial jet I got it to around 450. On the road just 95-100.

GPS & EZ-Pass don't co-exist peacefully

Deepstryke wrote:

Yep... Believe it or not I have an EZ-Pass device to pay my tolls automatically. For my surprise the EZ-Pass device did not register me entering the toll area when my GPS was on. It is a nuvi 350. So they had to give me a car-front mountable EZ-Pass device. Now they are both working fine. I know... you will say the instrument panel of the plain is far away, but if you think about it the wires, in which a current may be inducted are perfect environment for parasite signals.

Place?

Hm... I got to try it out on a Plane next time. My highest land mph recorded on my gps is 136. Not sure how accurate that is but I reset that just in case a police officer using their great intellect thinks that my family sedan can ever go that fast.

MY Nuvi Has Never Left The Ground ...

So my top speed, if I didn't reset it all the time, would probably be around 85-90.

But the other day I loaded some new POIs on my daughter's SP330. I tapped the trip history button and it showed a top speed of 142mph! Being that she drives a little Honda Civic, I am thinking/hoping/praying that this was nothing more than a hiccup, like the one I had on a training ride on my bike with my eTrex, and it showed a top speed of 900+.

Speed on c330

I had 131 mph in my semi. Not bad when the truck is governed to 70 mph. I too must have had a glitch cause it was on the Indiana Tollway on a flat surface. But it is fun to see these numbers thou. It is the "little" things in life that amuse me.

I don't think so.

As a private pilot, and military crew member, I have never seen any electronic device cause any kind of problem. I am not saying it cannot happen, just that I have never seen it. I have sene people using laptops, walkmans, ipods, and GPS's on flights and I have never seent eh airplane drift or get off course because of all this extra EMS around the aircraft.

I can see it not being used before and during takeoff, and before and during landing, but other than that, most airplanes these days use GPS and other equipment to check their position. If it was to affect one, I doubt it would affect all. Plus all sensors and devices are either outside the aircraft, or in an area that is not susceptible to EMS problems.

It is like most new things, some people are just afraid of new things and will not ask quesiotns to learn about it.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I believe it may be more of a way to get passengers to stow distractors and focus on the crew who will need their attention should something go wrong.

^ I agree!

I agree with the above ^.
I have a friend who is a commercial pilot and he told me he's actually told a passenger who had and "emergency" phone call that he HAD to make to go stand near the window in the main cabin door and use his cell phone. He said (off the record) that some pilots and 1st officers use their personal cellphones in the cockpit during flights sometimes.

So talk away as long as you don't get caught!

wink

Hesitated to try

I fly all the time and if you read the back of some of the airline's free magizines (same page as the liquor selection) they usually tell you what electronics are allowed on the plane. If I remember correctly - United does not allow GPS. I have been flying SW a lot lately and yesterday flying from Dallas to KC I thought I would look to see if it was allowed an it was.

I got a max speed of 506 on my nuvi 760. The average speed from 10,000' to 10,000' in altitude was 457 and the highest I got was just over 40,000' I changed to mode to pedestrian and told it to go home. It freaked out recalculating all the time so I stopped the route and just watched the map and compared it to ground features. The plane was a 737-500

I am headed to Europe next week so I am excited to see how much faster we can go flying a higher route and probably a faster route. I am starting of in a CR700 and then moving to a 777. Both are pretty zippy planes.
