Oregon 300 Waypoint Management

I'm going back packing for 16 days and I have plotted my route using between 120 and 150 waypoints for each day. Each day is held in a separate .gpx file but how an I use these on my Oregon 300 without reconnecting to a computer during the trip?

Not really the best site for handhelds

You'll probably find more help if not the answer to your question at a site that isn't as oriented to automotive units as POI Factory is. Try here: http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/ grin

Try These GPS Handheld Sites

Try these sites. There's a lot of information here and great folks that can help you out.

OK.....so where the heck am I?

One thing you might want to

One thing you might want to consider doing is to: inaddition to having your waypoints stored also save all of your waypoints as custom POIs (yes you'll have the same location on the screen twice... stacked one on the other). I've done this with deer stands and it doesn't cause any problems.

You could categorize these custom POIs by Day 1, Day 2, etc. Due to the remoteness of a 16 day hike this would be a good safety backup system; if for some unforseen reason you have to do a Master Reset of your GPS you will loose all of your waypoints, tracks, and routes. You will not loose your Custom POIs since they can only be removed via a computer. You could even give the set of custom POIs for each day their own unique custom symbol... "D1", "D2", "D3", etc.

Process to convert to Custom POIs won't take long either using Mapsource. You could even take a spare memory card loaded with backup maps and your Custom POIs in case of a memory card failure.
