my garmin pois and my extra poi

when i create poi and load them onto my Garmin when i look them up and go to my destination will both poi show up the one i have made up for say flying j and the original one on my machine will they both be on my screen ?

thanks guys just trying to learn

Yes they will if the

Yes they will if the coordinates are different from the custom poi and the built in ones.If the coordinates are pretty close one icon may cover the other.I done a little test you may want to try.I took a Sonny's BBQ close to me as a custom poi.I have a Sonny's custom icon for it.When you select one of the custom pois as my example instead of touching go touch map at bottom. Using the t tab zoom in real close all the way if needed. In my example I see the custom icon I have for Sonny's and I also see the standard spoon and fork for the Sonny's built in poi. They are of different coordinates.I do the Sonny's file and go to this one a lot and have the coordinates right at entrance. The built in ones have them located a distance back on the main rd but close enough to get you there.

It should be noted when driving to the location you will not see the icon until you are right close to arrival unless you zoom in on the map pretty close. So don't expect to see icons all over the screen while navigating.Garmin does not clutter the screen up with icons.

thank you

thanks charlesd45's thats what i figured you can't go on mapsource and move the original pois and save them and use the originals??

Pois

I know it results in a lot of duplication.Submitted a suggestion way back when to be able to access the original pois so you could add or modify.

On the plus side custom pois in most cases will be more up to date with new locations.

Now you can use Mapsource using the find tab then find places to make waypoints and save as a gpx file. The drawback is that you can only find what is available with the maps.Sometimes you find places that are closed or all new openings not included. Most of the file authors for custom pois try to find the web page for the store that is more up to date and make custom pois from the web page.

ya using map source now

ya working on some pois andon map source and google earth man some of the factory pois are way of i meen way of i drive truck and need them to be really good on the money to hard to turn around cause gps is of by alot

Google Earth is good to do

Google Earth is good to do custom pois.If you haven't already done it you can go to tools, options and put check mark in decimal degrees located under Show Lat/Long .

Extra Poi Editor also good for gpx files as well as csv.

You can download Extra Poi Editor at http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor and build the distance in for the alert. When you download the program if you get message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download. Once installation is completed you will need to set up the preferences you want first. Under options click on preferences. For example using ft for input. Under units you will see editor, select Imperial/US. For Field Read select metric and Field save select Metric.
