Pays to be a stick in the mud

I've been complaining to Garmin since I bought my Garmin Nuvi 1390T that it does not show Texas 45 /130 that runs from Round Rock Texas to below Austin Texas. They are finally going to fix this HOWEVER they want me to pay to get the update that should have already been on the device, Kind of like a hand shake, followed by a Kick in the Pants. shock

Hi Tman65(Name Changed to show online name),

Thank you for contacting Garmin Cartography. It looks like NavTeq, our data vendor, has corrected this in their map database. The change will be reflected in our City Navigator North America NT v2011.1 map update due out around the end of April. If you have not done so already I would also recommend taking a look at our recently introduced nüMaps Lifetime program. It is by far the best option we offer for map updates if you plan to keep your GPS for a while. We appreciate your map feedback.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and thank you for your interest in Garmin.

Regards,
Nathan

I take this road everytime

I make a delivery run to San Antonio from DFW. My Garmin shows part of the toll road, but not after you get to hwy 71. My maps are a couple of years old. After that, it looks like I'm driving in a field.

Not doing anything worth a darn.

Navteq Royalties

You have to appreciate the costs involved in creating, maintaining and correcting the maps for the entire US & Canada. Navteq has full time people that drive around with equipment to record updates to mapping. I'm not sure how the POIs are updated, but they also maintain these.

Now add the cost for Garmin to convert the Navteq data to the Garmin formatted maps and testing.

We can all help these things get better by reporting errors on Navteq.com AND Garmin.com.

You are furtunate that Garmin now has a lifetime update and supplies up to 4 updates per year for as long as you own that particular GPS. It used to be you would have to decide each year to buy an update or not, for about the same cost as the lifetime is today, if you shop around for the update card. I picked one up on Amazon for $80 recently.

a better feature

A better feature would be the ability of the unit and Mapsource software so I can Add in my own roads. For example, If I left the ECO feature on in my rental car and I drove the Texas 45 the Garmin unit tracks my route and then I can feed my way points into Gramin all I need now is the ability to add a line to the map that I can drive on., The reason I want the Line feature is so Garmin doesn't show me crusing through a cow field at 70 Mph instead let me put the line on a map, and show me on the line.

Now don't get me wrong I know i can mark way points anywhere, (take your garmin on a boat trip on in the back country some time) what I want is the ability to add and maintain my own maps.
