Strange Picture behavior between Nuvi memory and card memory

I've a Nuvi 285WT. I've a SD card with some pictures (additional splash screen) on it. Recently, when viewing pictures, the Nuvi does something strange.
I have one page (I believe that is nine pictures) of thumbnails of pictures that are stored in the Nuvi internal memory. The next three or four pages are stored on the SD card. If I go into the Picture Viewer and view the thumbnails, the pictures on the Nuvi memory show up just fine. I then scroll down to the second page and see the first nine pictures from the SD card. The up arrow can still be selected. If I try to return to the first page of thumbnails, I get a blank white screen. That is, the thumbnails of the pictures that are on the internal Nuvi memory are not rendered. If I go down to the third screen and then go up to the second thumbnail screen, the up arrow to get to the first thumbnail screen is not available. It is "greyed out".
Weird behavior. It did not always do this. Before I restore my original backup to the GPS, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me to try. I'm also curious if anyone else has had this problem.
