RLC Warnings strange behavior after 4.90 update on Nuvi 760

I updated my 760 to 4.90 a little while ago and I'm noticing some strange behavior with Red Light Camera warnings.

When the intersection is one where I have a turn, I get the bong bong ONCE, but no display on the screen. If I stop and start again, I get the bong bong again, but still no display. After I make the turn, the gray bar with the RLC notice appears very briefly.

When I am just going straight through the intersection with the RLC, I get the bong bong and the gray bar displays about 1/4 mile away. The bong happens only once, and then the gray bar disappears.

In both cases I see the gray dot on the map that marks the position of the RLC.

I do not see an option in the settings anywhere for changing the alerts status from 'once' to 'continuous'. As I recall, my 350 had this setting but the 760 does not appear to have this option.

I have done both a soft reset and hard reset with no change in this behavior.

Before I downgrade the firmware to 4.80, has anyone else noticed a difference in RLC notices since they upgraded to 4.90?

RLC file and 4.90 Upgrade

My 760 is fully upgraded with 4.90 and is operating normally at red light camera locations. However, I am not using the latest red light camera file, but one at least 2 months old. It is a .csv file.

If you are using the default proximity distance in POI Loader of 1320 feet (a quarter mile) you should be getting four alerts (bong - bong) in all. I set it at 500 feet and get two alerts of .mp3 sounds.

I don't think the problem is related to 4.90.

Update

What's happening is that when my route takes me straight through the intersection, the RLC alerts work normally.

When my route has me making a turn at the intersection that has an RLC, the alert only shows briefly when the bong bong sounds, and then the gray warning box goes away. I think what is happening is when it updates the info in the green navigation instructions bar, it turns off the gray warning box.

I still think I would like to try downgrading the firmware to see if that's the cause. Does anyone have a link to the older firmware versions? The link I have no longer works.

Navigation and POI Alerts

I think your nuvi is operating normally. In other threads in POI Factory, it has been said that navigation trumps POI alerts. That is by design - it makes sense. When you turn a corner, new navigation info is displayed in the top bar and the POI info goes away. It is so rare to have a red light camera at a corner while navigating a route the shortened alert might be acceptable.

I disagree with others about rolling back firmware. It is just not that simple, and I don't do it. You could be causing a problem that can't be fixed by subsequent updates. There have been threads where firmware updates have been blamed for causing various problems, and in the end the real cause is that different nuvis have different features. The old firmware may still be available at other links - search for other threads on that.

If you wish to downgrade firmware you can find all the 760 versions here

The only stipulation is to NOT backdate a 4.x version unit to 3.x or below. Doing so will render the 760's Bluetooth function useless and it will need to be returned to Garmin for repair. This is a known issue. As long as you stay at 4.x if you are currently at a 4.x version, you will be fine.

Agree with Dobs108

I agree with dobs108 that your 760 is working correctly. I've noticed my nuvi navigation voice will cut out the red light camera voice. To solve this I increased the warning distance so now I get the warning then the navigation.

You might be right

They may be making it an either-or situation and giving preference to guidance, even though it is not necessary on the 760. On the 760, the speed and RLC warnings appear on a different line, below the green navigation instructions, so they are both displayed at the same time. There's no real reason to blank out the RLC notices when there is a turn.

I live out in the 'burbs, so we are just now getting some RLC's that I pass through on a regular basis. For all I know, it may have always been this way and I'm just now noticing this.

On my 765T ,,,

If I come to a stop while within range of the RLC, or if I am going very slow, as in making a turn, the "bongs" will repeat every time I get above about 10 kph. In stop & go traffic it gets a bit (OK well a lot) annoying.

Repeated Alerts

Computerperson, yes you do get another alert every time you stop and go. You can minimize that by using a shorter alert distance. POI Loader defaults at 1320 feet in automatic. I use it in manual and enter 500 feet for areas with a low speed limit.
