Type delay solved?

I think I've figured out why the Nuvi's freeze for a few seconds when typing. It's because of the number of custom POI's, either in the unit, or on a card.

I experiend this after loading the US Postal Zip POI, and found the typing delay was there, not too bad but there. As I have mine on the SD card, I just removed the card and no more delays.

So, it would appear the unit searches the POI's as well perhaps.

Give it a try and let the forum know!

Slow Typing

Sounds likely. I had similar slow speeds on my 855 that ended up in complete faailure. Removing the sd card solved the problem

See my post on 855 and 8 GB Sd card.

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

.

The typing delay problem (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27696) which the 7x5 series is experiencing under firmware v3.90 is not related to user-loaded POIs. The problem is clearly seen when you do a search for POIs embedded in the map, not user-loaded POIs. Read the very first post by "myblubu" in the topic linked to above where it's described exactly where and when it happens (7 second keyboard lag after typing the second letter).

Card speed?

I wonder if it could also be an issue of card speed and/or quality??

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

May not be the ONLY cause.....

And just exactly HOW do you know that other things cannot cause it too ??? (You don't know that.)

The evidence presented in this thread would seem to indicate that other things can cause it too.......which seems logical.

Easy does it…we're here to help each other out not beat each other.

I can confirm that on my 755t software version 3.90 was the cause of delays/freezes along with a grayed out traffic icon. My fix was to roll back to software version 3.60.

Juggernaut and DorkusNimrod bring up good points which means users can try both there ideas.

Maybe the delay issue Juggernaut is referring to is different...however the link to the other topic (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/27696) is the one I'm addressing and what Juggernaut seems to be referring to as well and is the one that most other users are having. The first post in that topic describes the issue exactly. Users following this topic should read/re-read it to understand the issue.

1. The 5-second POI search keyboard delay issue is resolved by backdating the firmware from 3.90 to 3.60.

2. The 5-second POI search keyboard delay issue with 3.90 is not affected by user-loaded POIs. I had in fact removed all my user-loaded POIs (redlight cams for CA & AZ only) in my testing and it did not resolve or affect in any way the 5-second delay issue.

Again, the 5-second POI search keyboard delay issue only affects map-embedded POI searches (Where To?> Points of Interest>Spell Name), It does not affect searching user-loaded POIs.

That's all I was saying.

Maybe could have said it better.

Type delay solved?

I get a type delay, without the sd card inserted also. If i do more than one search for instance, it gets better, to the point where its completely gone. Once the machine is turned off and then on again, i'm back to the lag again.

Sounds like this is totally a result of an error in the latest firmware. I hope Garmin is looking at fixing this. It will probably take a lot of complaints by users to get it done. Since I have an older unit it doesn't affect me until I update to a newer unit.
