Map Errors (how to report to Garmin/Navteq)

Can someone tell me if there is a place to document map errors with Garmin? I've run into several locations that the GPS says two roads connect and also Interstate exits no longer existing.

Try

I've always received an automated 'thank you for your submission' message, but other than that, I've never received anything back - from either Navteq or Garmin! sad

It takes forever

It takes forever for NavTeq to update its map for whatever reason. An old farm road was re-routed in a house sub-division and it was completed almost 4 years ago. In its 2009 map it still was not updated and when I drove by, I was in the middle of the field. wink

I've been getting answers back from them in around a day...

Maybe now that the maps are

Maybe now that the maps are updated ever quarter things may be moving faster.Lets hope so.We need to report the problems we find.

notify both garmin and navteq

I get the automated "thank you" rather quickly, within a day usually.
The resolution email from navteq has averaged 18mo for the ones I've submitted.

The following is part of a response from Garmin from 2007:

"...We purchase one update a year from Navteq and if the timing isn't right, the changes may not be in their database yet when they send us our update. I know it can be frustrating but Garmin and our data vendors do everything possible to put out the most accurate, up to date maps possible. In addition to submitting the errors to us you may also want to consider contacting NavTeq directly by filling out their map feedback form. The link to the form is below. These reports are reviewed by NavTeq and they will contact you directly regarding the status of the error. Once they have corrected the issue the change will show up in a future Garmin map update. Their site also allows you to view their most current data so you can check to see if the change has already been made..."

They will still be two years behind, just updated quarterly, instead of yearly. Thats what Garmin pays for.

Street missing

On the newest MapSource 6.15.11 and my 1490T (2/25/10), you still do not show a street that has been in existence for several years.

At N33 38.491 W117 50.114
Russell Place continues and intersects Anteater Drive.
You show that Russell ends at Murisaki.

Google Earth shows it perfectly. Google Maps shows it also. Yahoo, MSN and MapQuest are still incorrect.

Please advise when you will be able to show this correctly.

Thanks.

navteq

It's long to get an answer from navteq but it looks harder to have them considered. Did some of you got the updated map fixed? I've send some errors a year ago and most of them are still not fixed.

It can take awhile, but I have seen the results of my efforts on a few occasions.

I would suggest that you register with Navteq and then you can see the status of your request. Be advised that, when they say "Resolved" it only means that they are working on making the change.

Where possible, I get feedback from the muicipality to document my claim, but that is often not possible. At least be clear about your request and include Logitude and Latitude if available.

In Navteq's defense, there are probably billions of roads and tens of thousands of changes every year. The municipalities and Transportation Authorities don't specifically even finalize their own info for years, let alone advise Navteq of any new roads or errors, in a timely fashion.

For example, we have friends that have lived in a subdivision for over 6 years and their street still does not show on any map. In other cases, I've seen streets on Google Maps, that don't even exist yet.
