Apple IPad

I figured it was time to start an IPad thread. I'm excited about the possibility of my next GPS being an IPad application using the built-in GPS chip, memory, etc. As folks buy IPads, keep us updated as to what GPS app you are running and how you like it. I assume that iPad mounts and other third-party gizmos will also be available.

Onwards!

AT&T changes data plan

as of June 7th AT&T will do away with their unlimited data plan for the IPad and replace it with a 2Gig plan for $25.00. A $5.00 save from the unlimited plan. IPad does not have WiFi.

I have several apps on my NON 3G model IPad that

has several applications that have GPS applications that work with WIFI which is not the same think as real GPS but it does tell me my current location when connected to WIFI.

Huh?

iPad does have Wifi

See the Wikipedia page for one set of specs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad

As far as changing data plan rates, AT&T and providers like it will have to become more creative about how they charge customers. For the moment, devices are going to consume an ever-increasing amount of data, as high-def content and "enhanced" websites continue to set in and be accepted by the masses. AT&T has received a lot of flak about its network, and some of the criticism is deserved. But if Apple's business model with the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad holds -- and I think it clearly will -- AT&T is fast becoming marginalized.

whoops

My mistake, on some electronics show I saw, they mentioned that the IPad did not have WiFi. Checking the specs I stand corrected.

The 3G model has the GPS and

The 3G model has the GPS and the Co-pilot car nav software(it's available on the APP store). Even though car mounts are available you probably can't put it on your dash because of it's large size. I've also seen some in-dash options but be careful since it plays movies it should be illegal to have in the front seat.

Ipad

Another Apple toy that gives the person whom bought it bragging rights. I'd rather keep the $500+ for something else.

much to my chagrin . . .

son & wife ordered one. Can't see the attraction.

POIViewer

Hello,

I've made an iPad app which let you import POI files (ov2, KML/KMZ, GPX, csv).

You can then visualize the POI on the map and see what's around with flickr, panoramio, streetview, wikipedia and foursquare.

It brings you the best of both worlds : POI files and social internet.
