Red light alert

I have downloaded the redlight-camera poi, used the Garmin POI loader program to install it on my Nuvi 750. It shows as being there when I go to 'Extras, Custom POI's as a gpi file. It does not alert me when I approch a red-light camera (I know they are there). I was using Garmin's redlight download and it worked. Does anyone know whether I should use 'h ddd.dddd' or 'h ddd* mm.mmm' or 'h ddd* mm'ss.s' or does this make a difference? I do have custom POI's checked and turned on.

Garmin's red light download doesn't have any red light cameras except in Europe. Use the POI Factory Red Light Camera file, and use PoiLoader to put the file in the GPS. An alert will then be a chime, and you can improve that with a redlight .wav or .mp3 file (for the Nuvi 750, but not all Garmins). Search this site for links on exactly how to do that.
The Red Light Camera file uses 'h ddd.dddd' - but it doesn't matter what the setting is in your GPS. It will work for an alert no matter what. If you want to send the coordinates of an intersection or another POI, the convention is 'h ddd.dddd'
There is also another current thread on use of PoiLoader and red light cameras.

I have done exactly as you are describing at least I think so. The other POI I used was 'CamerasGarmin', downloaded 2 years ago. Maybe it wasn't from Garmin though?!? I am not able to make a mp3 file work either, have tried 3 of them. I am starting to believe my Nuvi 750 is just being stubborn and not wanting to try anything new.

The key is to use PoiLoader the right way, and the structure of the folders containing your POIs. Please refer to the Garmin FAQ to get this right -

The POI Factory red light camera file is known to work perfectly. Every time you run PoiLoader it overwrites all the POIs in the GPS. If you remove CamerasGarmin from the POI folders, it will not be loaded the next time you run PoiLoader. Once you get the POI Factory RLC file working with the default proximity chime, then go on to the next step and use a .wav or .mp3 file instead. All you need to know is already on this site.

Proximity alerts
I haven't downloaded the Red Light POI's, but have to ask; did you set the proximity alerts when you installed them?

Thanks, yes I did turn off and back on my proximity alerts (twice). I renamed the existing poi's in my poi folder so not to loose them and then re-loaded the red-light camera poi again. Still nothing. I am wanting to try an 855 so maybe I'll wait and it will work on it?!?

The 750 should work perfectly.

The 750 should have no problem with alerts. If you have ownloaded and unzipped the Poi Factory Redlight and Speed Cameras.See this post to double check your process
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 .Make sure to read tips at bottom of page about double extensions and naming the files.

Rename Existing POIs
If you rename POIs they still exist in the folder and they will be loaded. To solve your problem, delete them because it is not known whether they are reliable.
make sure all your software
make sure all your software is up to date

I will try removing all of the existing POI files in the POI folder and start over with just the redlight-cameras POI from factory. I think I am downloading the correct file but I didn't think it was a zipped file. One of the files I downloaded was the McD's for my grandkids and it seems to work fine, it list some that were not there from Garmin. I just updated the software and map last week.
Do you have a unzipping program?
The red light and speed cam is a zipped file. If your computer doesn't unzip it that maybe the problem. If it is uploaded as a zipped file to the garmin my guess is it can't read the file(s)
If other poi's are working then making sure you unzip the speed/redlight cams files before uploading should do the trick. There is also 2 redlight cam files in the zipped file. One is a beta. I would delete one of them so only 1 of each is uploaded

To all who tried to help me make my Nuvi 750 work with the Redlight-cameras POI. Good news, it works! I first turned off custom poi's, I than deleted all of the poi's I had loaded on my unit. This was a lengthy process, I did it with the poiloader program (thought it may be better than using windows explorer). The poiloader program will only delete a program that is a POI.gpi file, and I couldn't use wild cards. So I had to first rename each one separately and than run the loader program set to remove all POI files (several times). I than re-downloaded the redlight-camera cvs file and re-installed it with an MP3 file that also works. Now I'll start re-loading more POI's, one at a time and make sure they work before I load more. Thanks to all
