Poi's

I am new to the 'POI Factory' but am wanting to find out how Nuvi's handle additional POI's. For Example McDonalds,
they all seem to be on my Nuvi among all the other POI's so if I download the one from the POI Factory, does my Garmin use both my new download and what's in it's own memory bank? Does my question make sense? Thanks

Extra's

When you load up a poi and go to extras, that is where the poi's show up, so actually you have 2 McDonalds, one on the gps database and one from the downloaded poi,BUT being that the one on the garmin may be closed and the one on the download may not be closed , due to the people updateing the file, I have a tendency to trust the ones that are put up here due to the fact of the update is a lot faster than if you submit a update to garmin, Hope this helps.

Welcome to the community

Welcome to the community. To answer the question- No. POI loaded from here are under Where To ->Extras ->Custom POI and are separate databases.

To get a better idea of how it works and how to download POI read through the Getting Started and FAQ pages.

POI's

Thanks adcusnret, One reason I asked is that I have 2 McD's within 5 miles of my house both at least 4 years old but My 750 show the nearest one at 8.8 miles away and either of these 2, I guess, are in either database.
P.S. I am only using McD's as as example for discussion and/or learning.

updateing

If you have one to update for some reason, go the poi file your updateing and click on the persons name at the top of the screen, then click on contact, that opens a message folder, send the maintainer the info he/she needs.
name of the place
address (complete)

and the lat and long of the place

One advantage of these POIs

One advantage of the custom POIs is that when you find something missing, you can reply to the person who created the POI with information on the new location. That person will update their file.

One other possibility is that they were in the custom POI and you did not search properly. The custom POIs are accessed through the Extras menu. Then you would select your McDonald's POI and should see a listing of the closest 50

Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource

The McDonalds in the data

The McDonalds in the data base is found under "Fast foods" and the one in the POIss is found under McDonalds, So if you are looking for only McDonalds you don't have to go through all the others to find it. It will only show you McDonalds.

Thanks mkahn. I was not

Thanks mkahn. I was not using extra'a, I'm learning. However, I downloaded 'Redlight camera's', used my POIloader to install it on my Garmin. And they are in the POI folder of my Garmin but it does not show up when I go to extras? Thanks

Extras then custom pois

Make sure when you go to extras you touch custom pois last to see them.If they don't see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721
