Display on Nuvi 1300?

Although you have a list of items that can be displayed on the 1xxx map screen, there is no option to move that information from the right hand edge.

She will be returning the Nuvi. The display on the side takes up a lot of the map area.

and I am not sure what you are describing.

My Nuvi 1300 has the "Arrival" time on the bottom left, "Speed" on the bottom right and the "Distance to the next turn" and "Street Name" going across the top.

It's like that on the GPS and the box. Are you in the USA?

I have read the entire manual and tried every setting I can find to try to move the display to the bottom like yours.

Yes we are in Florida. She bought the GPS in St. Augustine. She and her husband had a Tom Tom and liked the Nuvi 650 that I have better.

Also, my Nuvi has a "Bus" selection in Navagation in addition to the "Motorcycle/Car" or "Pedestrian" choices. Both of us travel in motorhomes and like this setting. The Nuvi 1300 does not have this option. Do you know what models do?

Sounds like you're describing the four stacked data fields that's available on some of the 13xx/14xx series units....that's what I gather from your description of "right side of the screen and takes up about 1/4 of the display space". If that's the case, it's likely under:

Tools>Settings>Map>Map Data Layout>Standard. Note that you may need to scroll the screen down with the arrow to see this option.

Set your Map Data Layout to Standard Setting. Settings>Map>Map Data Layout>Standard

It tried this on my 1300 and "Standard" gives you the display I have (on the bottom, like the box).

Yes Standard give you direction of travel and speed in the bottom corners of the map screen but selecting:

Tools - Settings - Map - Map Data Layout - More Data will give you the choice of speed in the lower right corner and any three of these other items:

With No Route Planned

- Direction of Travel
- Elevation
- Time Of Day

With a Route Planned

- Direction of Travel
- Elevation
- Time Of Day
- Estimated Time Of Arrival
- Distance to Destination
- Estimated Time to Destination

Unlike the TomTom units which have an option to put this type of data on the side of the map screen or along the bottom of the screen, the Nuvi only allows it to be displayed down the right side of the screen.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference, but taking up space on the side of the display doesn't bother me to much. It's over on the edge where it never covers the road your on and with so little street detail on the new Nuvi's the worst thing I've seen is that the odd side street name isn't fully shown.

I checked my Nuvi 1300 WT GPS and it matched the photo on the box front.. so I have no idea why yours is different. I love my unit and wouldn't trade it in for anything.

Are you sure this was an original purchase? What Im getting at... There is a HUGE super retailer in the us who's name I will not mention but it starts with a "W" that has a very nasty habit of taking stuff back and putting it right back on the shelf. Usually you can tell that a box has been repacked.

I bought my Nuvi 1300 from an internet seller that I trust. I love my Nuvi. I remember that you can select modes that will show half map on the left and half data on the right. If someone set this to this mode then returned the unit this might explain what happened.

My map displays the complete width left to right. On the garmin FAQ there is a method for resetting to factory default. try that.

OK. I changed the settings and got the display to the bottom. Now I can't figure out how to get the distance to next turn displayed at the top.

It was purchased from Wally World.

Arrival Time is on the bottom left and the speed is on the bottom right, then you should hve the distance to the next turn on the top left.

Ofcourse this will only show if you have a destination entered and moving toward the next turn.

The Nuvi 680 has the various methods of transportation; Car, Pedestrian, et. al.

Although this is an older model, it provides a major advantage over some other models; the battery lasts up to 7 hours on a charge. Although thicker than the newer models, it isn't really that much thicker.
