Amazon.com or Amazon.ca??

Yes & Yes got one from Amazon.com delivered to a US address and as the picture shows it is the Garmin Card. If you aren't in a rush just keep an eye on the price. I got mine for about $75 but I see they are currently over $90 USD. Reg. price is $119 USD

Just follow the dowload instructions included with the card.

It is a credit card style not a CD.

Prices will be likely different if you are looking at Amazon.ca.

It's lifetime

If you buy a DVD, you get one update. The lifetime code allows you to download the ~2GB file from Garmin when they release an update, which is about four times a year. As long as you have installed maps, this will update the City Navigator North America NT maps.

Make sure your GPS has as much free space as possible, as the entire mapset barely fits on my 1.2GB Garmin Zumo 550. (Backup and delete GPS:garmin\Voices\[all but the one voice you use], dump any photos, mp3's, routes, track logs, all but one vehicle icon and GPS:garmin\gpx\Current.gps,temp.gpx before starting.

Bought it

Bought it back in December when they shipped the card for less than $80 US. The immediate access D/L code was $20 more.

Thanks for the feed

Thanks for the feed backs, but I am talking about the online map code. There's no shipping. I live in Canada, everything here is so expensive. The lifetime map update over here is $199 at Best Buy... Can you guys believe it?

Garmin Lifetime map update

FWIW I'd just call a few of the US places that carry the card and that also offer shipping into Canada. (Not Amazon.com)

Amazon.ca doesn't carry that item.

tigerdirect.ca has it at $146 but their shipping charges are high.

Cheapest option-
Do you have any US friends/relations? It is just a credit card with a code on the back. Get it sent to a friend and they can just call you and give you the code off the back. Once you enter the code at Garmin you don't need the number anymore, but probably a good idea to file it anyway.

Best Place

The best place to buy the lifetime update in Canada right now might be gpscity.ca, $115.95.

Amazon.com map code

I am talking about the online map code that they are offering. I guess if you pay, they give you the password online, so there will be no delivery charge.
So is it reliable? Another concern is the map update now is compatible with the current operation systems..What about a couple years down the road.. some new Window system comes up?..Will we be able to use our map update?

Maps and OS'

Maps install to the Garmin OS, not to the computer OS. There shouldn't be a problem in the least.

Maps for New Operating Systems

With the Lifetime Map, you will get a “key” and in the future you would download new installer programs for each update and use that key key to install the map to your computer and to your Garmin.

The map installer program you download in the future may require you to have a different computer operating system than you have now. If so you would just have to buy a newer computer – same as those who have DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows 98 would have to do right now.

BTW in case you don’t know this, the “Lifetime” is that of your Garmin, not your lifetime.

I would be more concerned about their "...until Garmin no longer receives map data from its third party supplier," clause.

OP has a valid concern

Not really. Maps installer installs on your PC then maps get built and transferred to your GPS device. If it downloads directly to your GPS, you won't have to worry about your PC OS at all. However, I really don't think OP has any OS compatibility issues to worry about. The map will be obsolete a couple of years down the road. Why would one want to use an old map?

same way it's done if you buy lifetime maps directly from Garmin

All you do is download the map update file so as long as you are capable of downloading files from a website you should not have a problem.

That is the same way it's done if you buy the lifetime maps directly from Garmin so it should be no different if you order a card with a code or get the code on line at the time you order it.

The process is the same but the on line code is instant gratification. It is just cheaper ordering from Amazon than from Garmin.
