Where's the Zip Code tab?

I've just noticed the Zip Code feature in the Where To is now gone. Anyone else notice this?

It was there. Really. My meds are working fine. Really... mrgreen

It has been a subject of discussion previously, and much lamented that it didn't work. But, it did work on my 775T. I guess I was the only one. LOL!

zip code tab

A zip code tab would be great.... Never saw one on my 780 or 765T.

There is a zip code poi on this site.

Larry

Hmm

This is an article on it by Gary Hayman: http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/page10.htm#zip

Wait a minute now. If ur Canadian then its Postal code and they are still there, in the US its Zip code and they are gone. You said zip code?

Yes

I did. I do travel in the US, despite the fact I'm from Canada. A world traveller, as well.

Go figure...

Would like to see it

Zip code search would be a handy option.

ZIP CODE POI (Searchable)

ZipCode POI Searchable by ZipCode

If anyone is interested, I have compiled a ZIP Code POI DB (CSV) that is searchable by zip code.

It is quite large (43190 zip codes, but because the state abbreviation is the first 2 letters of column 4 it would be easy to extract the state or states you want and be able to make the data suit you.

All the data was taken from the last US Census data available with this data.

It returns: State, City, TimeZone and GMT-x

So ZipCode 00612 returns "PR,Arecibo - Atlantic Time Zone GMT-4"

ZipCode 62922 returns " IL,Creal Springs - Central Time Zone GMT-6"

ZipCode 99583 returns "AK,False Pass - Alaska Time Zone GMT-9"

ZipCode 96796 returns "HI,Waimea - Hawaii-Aleutian Time Zone GMT-10"

ect, ect.....

It covers all 50 states, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Isls.

I left out Guam and all the Pacific Rim US Protectorates such as Yap, Palau and Saipan... These places may have multiple zips but only one actual location (LON-LAT)per island. So using these zips for finding a city won't work. The only exception I can find is the Wake Island is listed but that is because it does have a Honolulu HI zip code assigned to it.

On a side note: I believe

On a side note:

I believe that a zip code input option would be very helpful and sorely missed (at least on every Garmin I've owned).

I sometimes have difficulties finding an address because the GPS does not connect it to the location. This happens a lot in Queens, New York. All of Brooklyn is Brooklyn, NY no matter the neighborhood but in Queens the address is the neighborhood, NY (Far Rockaway, NY , Ozone Park, NY , Richmond Hill, NY etc.) The GPS can be hit or miss and having an input for the zip code instead of the City might be helpful.

ZIP would be great!

Wow, the ZIP code capability would be great - especially if it saves you having to spell out the state and city!

Sorry, that' didn't help you find it or figure out why it's gone away but it's a really nice feature.

The 1690 has zip code & phone number search

The 1690 has the ability to search by zip or phone number through the nuLink Google White Page search.

It works great!

I like my 1690 and all the features.

One might say its a money grab. After your 2 years is up you have to pay $5.00 a month for those 12 extra features. That's ok though, most of us will upgrade by then

Go back

Did the old .30 not have the zip codes?

Never

There has never been zip code support for US addresses in the US as far as I know. There has been Postal Code support for Canadian addresses for many years.

Zip code search has never been available for searches within the US.

Wow, I must have got a 'special' unit then. I had it on my 775T, and it actually worked with no city or state input.

If you have zip code search on a 775T, it may be because your unit is a transatlantic unit with Europe & North America preloaded. Can you search via zip code in US locations? I also have Europe (not preloaded) and can search Canada and Europe location using postal code but have never been able to search US locations via zip code on my 765T.
