Hi i have a POI file that i would like to view and edit is there a program that will open a file with a POI extention. It contains about 65,000 different way points that mark transformer on a electrcal system.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
What kind of poi file is it, where did you get it, what is the extension, what kind of GPS do you have????
Most Garmin POI files have a .csv which is an excel file or .gpx extension which are loaded in Garmin units via Poi-Loader
Turboccc's extra poi editor should be able to open it. It can be found here:
.poi is extension Magellan uses for their factory preloaded POI's. There isn't an available editor for this extension.
Sorry ,im using a garmin 530c and the file extension is a .GPI file
When the POI loader uploads the CSV and GPX files from your computer to your 530C, it “creates” a GPI file, which is the aggregate of "all the files" you are uploading to your unit, into one single (GPI) file .
If you want to make any changes, or view any CSV or GPX files, you can do that "before" you upload those files to your unit.
Hope that helps...

Ok so is there a way to view and edit a GPI file or a way to bring it back to a CSV or GPX file.
Once it is there, there isn't anything you can do. That is why you should keep your CSV or GPX file folder structure on your PC. Some people keep it on their memory cards.
Its a file that a friend put on my garmin and i dont have the GPX or CSV files so i guess theres noting i can do with it . Well thanks for all the help :)in clearing this up for me
Using GPSBabel I was able to reverse the process. From a .gpi file I extracted a .csv file.
You can copy the poi.gpi from your unit and place on other units if that would help.
