I have a camera bmp that I'd like to get working as a transparent one in my Zumo. In fact, there's a bunch that I'd like to get working. For some reason, many that I've modified using the magenta trick that Garmin supports seem to work, but others don't. I don't know why!
Anyone familiar with this that I can email the icons to for fixing? We should post them somewhere once they are done for general distribution...
Good idea about sharing bitmaps. I created a small bitmap for the file that I uploaded and was willing to share it as well.
I think this is a great idea, I wounder if TomTom would support it?
If the bmp is 24 bit and measures 22x22 then you won't have any trouble loading it to a TomTom. I've created and loaded several bmps to my TomTom One using this format without any problems.
The only way I have figured out to make Magenta trick work is by saving as 8bit BMP files. 24x24 pixels work on my Nuvi.
I sent a bunch of BMPs to Miss POI. She is going to post them with the POI files soon I hope.
Ya I told you that I was working on that and then got distracted, but I will be back to it soon.
Lou from http://www.geocities.com/ls_monop/ helped me convert a few bmp's to wonderful Garmin transparency today. I've got em ready to upload when the system is ready for them!
gps on bikes.. awsome bro...
Are you guys saying that you can make POIs from a Transparent BMP? way kool.. I don't have a tom tom
The transparent bmp's are in addition to the actual poi's.
The bmp is just an image with transparent attributes associated, so that you end up with the image you want without the unattractive square background color.
When properly loaded along with a poi file, the image will display at the poi location instead of a plain dot.
If, by chance you create these in Photoshop, then, first save the icon in .gif format and then open it again, next saving it to .BMP!!
Remember also to have your transparent background in RGB with 255-0-255 setting!

I have an Ontario Provincial Park bitmap created that I can upload to you.
If you wish, I can change the extension to csv and upload it that way.
I am sending you an email browngraham.
