Hey all.
Recently joined and I think I'm hooked on how useful the POI files can be. I'd really like to build some for my area since I don't find a lot that are area-specific for my area but I don't really have a clue where to start.
I assume the first and biggest step will be getting the right POI creation program. Any suggestions? I looked at the ones in the site's FAQ and they appeared to be editors more than creators. I'm mainly interested in .csv formats if that helps narrow it down and free is always best

Any text editor will work. Excel will format a CSV file and using the four column format makes POI building a snap

In general the POI editing programs can also create POI files.
I am not sure why you would want to limit yourself to csv files but if so you can create them with any simple text editor, such as Notepad.
You can also create csv files (and other types) with more advanced “editor” programs such as Extra_Poi_Editor (EPE). A nice feature of EPE is that if you put in a complete address of a point, it will look up the latitude and longitude coordinates.
GPX
While it's true that .csv files are easy... so are gpx files nowadays and they offer SO much more unit functionality.
Extra POI Editor (EPE) would be (is) my first choice. I do use Excel and csv if I'm batch editing/manipulating, but I always then convert to gpx with EPE. (And vice-versa if I ever feel the need).
If you decide to use Excel, I have an add-in that might be of some help to you also. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20636
It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.
Well, I haven't been having
Well, I haven't been having luck installing POI_Editor. Keeps giving me errors trying to install. Guess I'll give a go at the excel spreadsheet
Can't wait to add to the files here.
If you are getting message
If you are getting message about OCX file missing scroll down on the main page and under troubleshooting you will find the Extra Poi Editor Installer that you will need to download.
