How 2 search for selected POIs in a POI file?

Is there a way to search for POIs that match a certain criterion? For instance I've loaded the Rest Areas file into my Garmin 765T and would like to be able to find the nearest Rest Areas which have an RV dump. Or find any along a planned route, so we know where we can dump while on the road.

Hopefully there is a way to do this short of pulling all of the Rest Areas with RV dumps out into a separate file...

.,

Nope. Not on the unit. The exists merely as text not as a database. Only the name is searchable on the unit.

You can't, but...

When you select the Rest Area POIs, you will see the 50 closest to your location in order of distance (as the crow flies). In the nearest one, you can see if it has a dump site. If not, check the next one, etc.

If this is not acceptable, then you can create a new POI with just those that meet your criteria.

I was afraid of that

I guess I'll need to break out the Rest Stops with RV dumps into a separate file to meet my purposes. Thanks for the quick responses, much appreciated.

290 RV Dump POIs,

Trying to find a way to get an Excel macro to copy them into another csv file, so I don't have to do this manually every time the Rest Stops file gets updated...

Would this help? With the cutbacks, so many rest areas are becoming extinct and some of those that are still open that have RV dumps are closing that service.

You might check the interactive state maps at:

The information here seems to be accurate, at least for the areas I'm familiar with.

Use Excel Autofilter

Instead of a macro, you could use the Data>Filter>Autofilter command in Excel to help you find the RV rest stops. Click on any cell containing data, then turn on the autofilter. Click on the Col D drop down arrow and either pick out 1 at a time the combination of rest area features you want and copy those filtered out cells to a new sheet. Otherwise, use the (Custom...) option in the drop down list and search for anything that "Contains" RV or whatever phrase you want.

Some things for you to consider mpan: Those that just say RV, are they the same as RV Dump? Then you have "All Services" and "Appears to be full facilities" - do you want those? Might be some other variations you want too.
