Nuvi 755t (using mp3 and bmp files)

I wanted to load some of those rest area csv files. d/l the bmp and also the mp3 file. Looked through the tutorial on "How do I load custom alert sounds for POIs on my Garmin GPSr?" Did everything it said. Used the poi loader to do the rest. Problem i seem to have is with the mp3 and bmp file. No where on my unit do i see the mp3 nor the bmp file. Can't find it through the mp3 player on my nuvi either. I found all my rest areas on my nuvi under Extras..not quite where i would like them, but oh well. On the bottom of that tutorial i mentioned it also says you must set Proximity Alerts to “On” on your unit. I can't find that either on my nuvi. Seems to me i'm not doing something right here?

Thanks for the help

you won't see them

The icon and sound file are part of the POI and not seen as standalone files.

i had the same problem on my

i had the same problem on my 765 until i went back and added my poi's in manual mode and set the proximity. now it shows up as noted above. I forgot to put sound files on them though so I don't know if there are default sounds built into the 765 that'll alert me or not without manually putting in sound files.

Maybe

It may only show up if you have loaded POIs with proximity alarms set. I have them loaded on my 765T and it is there. It should be beside Security.

There's that word again...lol "proximity"
I can't find that on my garmin. Most likely it would help me if i knew where it was sad .

POI Loader

Panache is correct. Proximity does not show up in the menu until you load some POI's with POI Loader that have proximity alerts.

Thanks. Lets see if i did something wrong. I re read that article on how to: How do I load custom alert sounds for POIs on my Garmin GPSr? Seems all ok.
I copied the rest area file for washington csv to a new folder, copied the rest area mp3 and the bmp into the same folder, renamed the mp3 and bmp to match the same as the washington csv file without changing the extension. I then started poi loader and did the add new custom thing and pointed it to the file folder.
It concluded with no errors. Went into the garmin and renamed the poi.gpi to wash.gpi. Then did the whole thing over again with the Oregon rest stops. Same steps, all 3 files again. All rest stops are in the garmin, but no rest stop icon or mp3 file or "proximity alert" function. Sound right?

Thanks

Manual Mode

Did you run POI Loader in manual mode and set a proximity distance on the desired file?

Question

Why not put all rest areas in one folder called Rest Areas under the overall folder you load using POILoader? Try it and see if that is what you need. It is a lot easier to divide by folder than to rename etc. each time. You can only have one level of sub-folders. They all load at one time via POILoader.

Did you use the "manual" setting instead of "express"? If not, that be part of the problem you're experiencing.

You won't like that

Problem solved

You have told the unit to alert constantly when you are going faster than 40 and approach a rest area. At 40 you only get a 2100 foot warning too.

I use 15000 feet to give me about a 3-mi alert.

I don't alert...

for rest areas. Most of my driving is interstate and the constant alerting got annoying.
