Nuvi 1690 Memory Free Space Help

Hi everyone.....again...being new on here I try to do a search before posting. I came up empty...unless I am just blind....

I have the Nuvi 1690 & when I am connected to the computer & I am on my account for Garmin under the "myDashboard"
It shows that everything is up to date & that memory wise....I only had like 1.1MB of memory left & after erasing a few of the cars & deleting 1 picture that I had on there....I am now up to 9.2MB of memory.
When it comes time to do updates again....especially maps & anything else that I want to load, like POI's....I just don't want to run out of memory. Is there something else I can do to have additional memory like by erasing the voices that I will never use or what?
I tried looking on Garmins site as well & I can't seem to find anything anything about what I need.
All I have on there is MyFavorites. I have maybe around 100 places saved...& I will be adding more as I go.

Thank you again for all that can help me out.

I have a question about the 1690 for you

SixFeet Deep:
I too have purchased the Garmin 1690 and run a MacBook Pro. I have not run into the issue that you posted as of yet, however, you have achieved something I cannot do. I am having problems loading any POIs. I have the Garmin POI loader and can get as far as finding the downloaded POI on my Mac, but it is grayed out and I cannot access it. Did you have this issue and if so, how did you rectify it?
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Weird....I plug it in to myDashboard again & the memory is down to 2.5MB.

Maybe the 2 vehicles I loaded on there had used up some of the memory, but it shouldn't use up that much memory. IDK.....goofy little GPS is driving me nuts!

No...I haven't tried to load

No...I haven't tried to load any POI's as of yet....I want to figure out the memory thing 1st. When I tried loading 2 voices it wouldn't load. I guess I didn't have enough memory space left & after I deleted a few of the cars I was able to load it. But I figure that there has to be some sort of way to do it without having to erase all user data....right?

After even more searching I

After even more searching I came across this below.
I did as it said I I was able to free up ALOT of space. I now have 287.1MB of free space to do a whole bunch of stuff now. Hope this helps everyone.

I just received this email from Garmin - hope it works:

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. These Nuvi units come preloaded with many different languages that do take up quite a bit of space, to be able to properly load the update, we are going to need to delete some unused files from the unit which you can do by following the instructions below.

1. Plug your unit into the computer via a standard mini usb to usb
cable
2. Open your my computer
3. Open the Garmin Drive
4. Open the Garmin folder
5. Open one of the following folders: Text / Help / Voice / JPEG /
Vehicles
6. Delete any unused languages ( be sure to keep your preferred
language) or pictures /vehicles if you have any loaded
7. Return to the Garmin folder
8. Repeat steps 5-7 in the other folders listed
9. Empty your trash/recycle bin on your computer

This will give your unit enough space to properly load the map update
for your unit. From here, run the rmu_cnnant2009.exe file that you have
downloaded.

Please note: The mapping update must be loaded to the units internal
memory, so adding memory through an SD card will not open up any space for the update to be loaded.

Don't use My Dashboard.

You will see notices of updates and other items for you unit here. When you see them, then use Web Updater to load them. You will see what is being updated and a list of all that is available as updates. All My Dashboard does is tell you "A Firmware Update is available" 5 seconds after you just reconnected after disconnecting.
