Seeking instructions on POI files

In reading posts, I see many instances implying that there needs to be some special procedure used when you want to "ADD" a new POI file to your device (in my case a Garmin 765T). The implications from the post is that all the old POI files ore deleted - surely that is not right.

In any event, could someone give me instructions for adding POIs to my "custom POIs" after the initial downloads?

If there are already instruction on this site, would someone point them out to me? While "posts" are one place that this information might be found, that seems to be haphazard at best.

If you are looking to edit a already existing gpx or csv file look to extra poi editor. You can add delete or convert any gpx csv type file.

If you are looking to add to your custom POI file while driving, thats not possible, they can only be added to your favorites. Everything else has to be done on your computer

Hope that helps a bit

If you are using POI Loader to install your POIs, each time you run the program it replaces the previous loaded POIs. The key is to have a folder on your PC which contains all of the POIs you want to keep on your GPSr. These can be kept in folders (only one deep) which will be used to make categories on your GPSr. For example, in a folder named POIs on your PC, you can have subfolders named Stores, Traffic, etc. In each of these, you store all of your POI files. When you have a new poi to add to your GPSr, add it under these folders. If you don't want a certain POI, remove it from the POI folder.
Then, run POI loader and point it to the POI folder on your PC. It will replace the existing POIs on your GPSr with the new ones. If you added one new POI file, it will copy all of the old ones plus the new one.
There are other ways of loading POIs without erasing the old ones, but this is the standard method.

Loading POIs

Thanks for that excellent clarification. "Replacing" all the POI files makes sense to me, because one might have made a change to none or all of them and might, or might not, have added a new POI file to the folder tree (one deep). That was not the sense I was getting from various replies to posts.

Perhaps a new FAQ using your comments would be helpful at the very top of the POI loading topics

I loaded POI's for the first time this morning and got the same results. I have about 6 copies of each file i put on my 765t. Gonna go try to fix it now.
