POI question (old files disappear when I install new ones)

I had a problem when I tried to check out the speed and red light cameras after I "thought" I had installed the poi in the 255WT. So now today I am looking thru my Garmin and I see "extras" and "Custom POI" and the speed cameras and redlights are there and nothing else, so I thought I forgot to install all the others I got here like the rest areas, wendy's etc. So I installed the rest areas again and now all the speed and red light POIs are no longer there? What am I doing wrong? Should I not be able to install more than one?
Thanks, Gene

I would sugest you create a

I would suggest you create a file for each poi, One for speed & red light cams. Another for each poi file you want to download and place all these separate files within a file named POI files on your computer.
Each time you download a poi file(s) to your garmin it erases the previous one. Get all the poi files into 1 main folder and download that file containing all the sub files to your garmin.

Thanks so much for you

Thanks so much for you prompt reply! That worked just great! Thanks again!

For the past month, I have

For the past month, I have been having a problem with my Nuvi 880, in the past when I updated my POI's, I would receive a message about new updates have been found do you want to install them in your Garmin if you remove your SD card, I always said no and then another message would appear and I always said never prompt me again, now each time I turn on my Garmin I receive the message about new data has been found on my SD Card and this continues all the time now, I have deleted all the data, removed the SD card, removed the battery, etc, etc. and still have the error message which is ok, but it is a pain each time I turn on my Garmin. Has anyone experienced this new problem? Any help would be appreciated.l

Do you get the message

Do you get the message whether a sd card is inserted or not or have you tried a different sd card and get same results?
Sometimes deleting files doesn't actually erase everything on your computer or an sd card.

Remove TEMP.gpx

nickjr - Either answer yes to the first question and do not check anything to import, or connect the GPS to the usb, use Windows Explorer and delete Garmin/GPX/temp.gpx where this data is waiting to be imported.

If you are loading POIs, you should be using POI Loader, not MapSource. You do not get a message when you load POIs to your Garmin, unless you inadvertantly loaded them to the SD card instead of directly to the unit. You probably don't want to install them on an SD card.

I use a Zumo, so the results may be different with your Nuvi.

Zumo 550 & Zumo 665 My alarm clock is sunshine on chrome.

On my nuvi 255w

I get that same message. Select yes and on the next page, it asks do I want to install the data. I put a check mark in the square and then select 'skip'.

You can install more than one POI File.

Thanks, Gene

You can install more than one if you use the renaming method. See:

"Internet: As Yogi Berra would say, "Don't believe 90% of what you read, and verify the other half."

I have always loaded them on

I have always loaded them on my SD card for the past 2 years and had no problem with any of my units till recently. I still continue to get the message "New Extras data found on card. Would you like to install this data do that will be available if the card is removed? I always said NO and then I would get a check box that says never to ask again, I do not get this check box anymore, I think this is the main issue, I have deleted the poi's via poiloader, I didn't have a temp.gpx when I view all the files on SD and unit via explorer.. Any other suggestions?
