nuvi won't remember zoom level

My nuvi 255 won't remember the zoom level I set. I've never had this problem before. It insists on returning to 0.3 mi at low speeds regardless of where I set it. Is this a bug in the new firmware version, or is there a new trick I am missing?

Nope.

No trick. It's the biggest complaint I have with the Garmins. Why it insists on 'autozooming' to whatever distance it "thinks" I should be using is absolutely beyond my comprehension.

People will tell you that the unti will "remember" what level you set it to at various speed thresholds, but I've yet to have my nuvi 765T remember where I had it set. I would prefer the thing to be 100% zoomed in at all times, but it categorically refuses to do this, which is ENDLESSLY frustrating to me.

Welcome to Autozoom...

This used to be a user configurable option (enable/disable) on the first nuvi 3xx series. Later on, Garmin removed the option from the 3xx series via a firmware "update".

Gee, thanks Garmin... rolleyes

After disappearing from the 3xx series, it was never a configurable option on any nuvi *except* for the 8x0/8x5 and 5000.

nuvi 2x0 and 2x5 were predictable and controllable

My nuvi 200 was predictable. It remembered a low speed and high speed zoom. While following a route it stayed at the low speed zoom level until you reached a certain speed then it zoomed out to match the distance to your next turn or the max level you set.

My 255 used to work the same way. Lately it has refused to remember my preferences. I can only assume that a recent update messed it up.
