Will Magellan ever update map for the 4350 ?

Maybe....

New maps don't seem to have a very high priority with them. Once a year is about all they can seem to manage....and the price is often pretty high.
Because of the price, most Magellan users only update every OTHER time.....about 2 years; some are ready for a whole new unit by then !!!

If I understand the question correctly, the answer is no. The file format and base operating systems are entirely different.

Yes and No

Will Magellan ever update map for the 4350?

Those, who claimed they KNOW, posted two “credible” and contradictive rumors: first (chronologically) rumor stated that 4350 model is dead, end-of-the-line, abandoned, etc. Second rumor [recently] stated that maps are coming, just wait a bit…

Regarding use of “an unlock garmin img map”, I would like to confirm previous answer and to add: if you would like to follow unlocking pass, a different set of maps is needed and… available!

Future support speculation

This is pure speculation on my part. However, I doubt that Magellan will provide much future support for the 4350 and 4370. With the 4350 and 4370 which were released October, 2008 Magellan had decided to use NavNGo iGo8 software. That is why the procedure to create custom POIs on these models is so different from prior models.

It appears that when MiTAC acquired Magellan December 2008/early 2009 the decision was made to sever the relationship with NavNGo and use different software for all future models. When MiTAC, which also has the Mio brand, acquired Navman in 2007 they severed their relationship with NavNgo in favor of Navman software.

So from a software standpoint the 4350 and 4370 are orphans. I assume that all models after the 4350 and 4370 are using some version of Navman software.

So we'll see if there is any map update for the Magellan 4350 and 4370. You may be able to use map udates for the iGo8 software, but who knows.

Replaced Magellan 4350 with TomTom XL335TM

I gave up on the lack of map updates for the Magellan Maestro 4350. The official word in the FAQs on this unit on map updates was that they would update at least every 12 to 18 months. Well, it's been 18 months since the unit was released in late October, 2008 and no map updates.

So, I just ordered a TomTom XL 335TM on Amazon. It is the same as the XL 335s but with free lifetime traffic and map updates. The unit cost about $70 less than I paid for the Magellan in January, 2009.

As far as I know the only things I gave up are Bluetooth (head set works better), FM transmitter (never used it), media center (never used it), AAA TourBook POIs, and automatic optimization of multiple destinations.

But I gained free traffic (Magellan cost $40 per year), free map updates (and they are quarterly!), documented traffic cam alerts and TomTom's IQ routes technology.

Magellan Maps

I contacted them 2 weeks ago and told me there would be and update late June 2010, so will see. I have the 4700 - 1475. I like the Magellan's a lot, just wish they would update at least once a year. Will See?

20 Months Too Long

We'll see is right! Even if Magellan delivers, 20 months is just too long for a map update. I have not used the 4700 or 1475, but I did like the 4350 a lot also. However, the current maps do not have the changes made to I-4 and surrounding streets in Orlando, FL which made it hard to navigate.

And I expect new construction and changes on I-4 in the near future. It just seems to me that with quarterly updates and user changes TomTom is much more like to be up to date on maps.

New 1Q 2010 Maps are out for the 4350/4370

Maps are out.

www.naviextras.com has them listed for the 4350 & 4370

You do NOT need to register to see the maps, just select "Maps and More" from the top of the screen and select Magellan" and the model you have (4350 or 4370 only)

Says 1Q 2010 maps.
What's strange is you can rent a map (US+CAN) for a month $17, but it says it will overwrite any maps you already have.

You can also buy the map outright for $50.00

Looks like naviextras has taken over where Magellan left us out to dry...

I bought the following from them:

3D pack of the USA
Safety camera database USA
United States Premium points of interest (POI) for North America
Map of United States and Canada

You get a discount on the other items once you pick the Map update. (about 50% off)

The new 1Q 2010 Maps, POI's and 3D Buildings work just fine, but I have no idea how I'm to use the new "Safety Camera database"

Also, I couldn't get the entire package to fit, but their software, Naviextras Toolbox, lets you download part of your new update, move things to your local PC that you don't need right now (like maps of Canada , Pureto Rico, Hawaii for me), then download the rest.

Works very well, I must say.

They "promise" to have 4 map releases per year, but we'll see...

Naviextras.com support site for Nav N Go Software

As you may know, the Magellan Maestro 4350 and 4370 are the only Magellan products that use Nav N Go's iGO 8 software. Evidently companies that OEM Nav N Go's software have the option of supporting the software themselves or having Nav N Go support it through their Naviextras web site. It appears until recently Magellan thought they would support it themselves. (I checked the Naviextras web site in the past and Magellan was not listed.) Now they decided to let Nav N Go do it.

Magellan's inplementation of iGO 8 does not provide menu support of the traffic cam feature. It can be implemented by editing the sys.txt file. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18393 the Magellan Maestro 4350 thread for more information.
