I don't think so

As much as I know it isn't possible to add POI's to any of the new Roadmate models, including Roadmate 1440.
I think Magellan lost many potential buyers with that decision.

You can add POI files. I own the 1430 and adding POI's work like a charm.
I little searching will yield results.

Do you mind posting instructions here? Thank you.
Well, if you have a PC, you
Well, if you have a PC, you simply convert the .csv file to .mgln (Magellan format), drag and drop the newly created .mgln into the POI folder of your GPS....depending on the model you own, Roadmate or Maestro you will need to select/install the POI within the UI of the GPS unit and your done.
If you need great detail, let me know and I'll type it out in more depth.
Hope this helps.

Custom POIs
I have a 1424 Roadmate, and it connects ok to USB, but there are no POI folders (There is a USR thats empty) but nothing to select or install in the menu. Any Ideas?
Cheers!
There should be a program
There should be a program within the CD disc that came with your unit. This program will install the POI's in your GPS unit.
Remember that the POI format is different for Roadmate models.

No disk
No software and next to no documentation... lol
Perhaps you should contact
Perhaps you should contact Magellan in obtaining a copy of the DVD disc or if you can find the program online you may be able to download it for free.

Been there done that...
Already tried that, and a distant representative told me that it doesn't support custom poi's. If it wasn't a gift I would take it back... It frustratingly allows USB connection but no POIs... Even if I could enter a coordinate on the keypad. Damn. And I would have given up except that there are hints about "possible future updates supporting CPOIs..."
This is typical for 2009 RoadMates
Magellan RoadMate 1424 is one of 2009 models, right?
2009 Magellan Corp. does not spend money on such "un-needed" things as AC/DC adapter, custom POI feature or sofware CD...
Having said that, I would expect that custom
POI could be added to the 1424 using the same method as posted above and works for 1430.
Right You Are...
Its a 2009 model and based on the feedback I too am suspicious that it is unsupported, not incapable...
I just need to collect some similar model file location and format info to experiment. Thanks!
POI and street name voice

I have a 1412 (so I can't speak for the 1424) and custom POI's do work but the strange thing is that if they are copied to the SD card, they will work once then after programming the next route, the voice quits speaking street names! You will hear "approaching left turn on" then nothing. Choosing no POI file had no effect nor did restarting the unit. I deleted the file from the SD card (once connected back to the pc) and the voices returned to normal. That prompted me to copy the file to the internal memory USR\CPOI folder instead and have not had a problem since. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
