Displaying Custom POIs

I have searched the forums and different links with conflicting answers. So, to the specific question.

Is it possible to continuously show all custom POIs on the nuvi 855 in a similar manner to the built-in POIs?

nuvi 855. Life is not fair. I don't care who told you it is.

They should show if you are

They should show if you are zoomed in to 200 ft level.

Results for Custom POI - 855

Hello,

I am new to the forum and the 855. Did you get this to work? I thought I installed all the right files, but didn't know if I had to add to the csv files for the proximity alerts to go off. Since I do not see the new icons, I imagine my custom POI's may not have loaded. Also, any chance you know if the external traffic GTM-20 over rides any of the proximity alerts?

See this post for custom pois http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 make sure to use manual mode for poiloader to set alerts. If you don't associate a mp3 file for the csv or gpx file you will get the standard bong alert.

Thanks

I will give this a run through and see what I get. grin

Success, but...

Ok, that worked!! Woo-hoo!! Now, what is the reasonable distance that most people use for their proximity alerts? 500ft seems too short to actually look up see the icon then look for the POI.

Setting Proximity alerts

The distance will vary depending on the POI and the approach speed. For Red Light Cameras, I use about 650 feet, Playing with speed cameras is a different story. If a speed is provided for a particular camera, I set it for 5 over (you do this using the @XX where XX is the speed). For highway rest stops, I plan on about a minute notice, so that works out to around 5300 feet at 65 MPH.

One other tip regarding the speed cameras, if you include a number such as 25 in the file name, then a default urgent alert is generated if you are going faster than 25 at any location that does not have a speed set using the @. The 855 should default to a distance of about 1/4 mile in any event.

Built-In POI icons not showing

On my 750:

1) I don't recall ever seeing the icons for built-in POI's showing up automatically (without searching). Is there a setting to enable this?
2) When searching for a POI, I can search through EITHER the Custom POI list, OR the built-in POI database, but NOT both. I believe that is how the nuvi's are designed.

Thank you!

.

@rajk: Built-in POIs will automatically appear on the map if you zoom in to 80m (150 ft).
Yes, you can only search either built-in or custom POIs, but not both at the same time.
