Associate pictures with Proximity or Radial Alerts for a custom POI ?

Is it possible to associate a .jpg image with a POI so that when you get withing the alert range a .jpg would flash on the screen alerting you as well ?

My nuvi 205W only displays a small gray box which is hard to read so I thought if it is possible to have a larger pic pop-up like a splash screen when you enter the alert range, that would be very helpful.

I have not tried editing GPX files yet and wondered if it may be possible throuh Extra_POI_Editor ?

Please advise.

thanks !

In a GPX file, the answer is yes and yes. You can associate a POI with a photo (and sound file) and EPE will handle those.

I agree with bdsii!! The little pop-up bubble is so samll you can't read the font. I just sent a request to Garmin product support to see I can increase the size of the pop-up on my Nuvi 1690.

You can associate a jpg

You can associate a jpg picture with poi (I use Mapsource), but on 2x5 it does not pop up on screen instead of gray alert bar. Even trying to select gray alert bar does not work.

On 350 and 855, you can select alert bar and select the trumbnail to display picture.

So is the answer yes-it can be done - or no, it can't be done? I'm confused (as usual).

You can not replace the alert bar with a jpg picture. jpg picture will not display automatically.

However, you can associate a jpg picture to poi.

Basic units with no mp3 player only display the gray alert bar - it can not be selected. If you want to view the associated picture, you have to select custom poi using Where To > Extras > Custom POI to select poi > select picture thumbnail to view picture. Pretty cumbersome.

On units with mp3 capability, you can select the alert bar. This displays the poi screeen that displays picture thumbnail in one corner and sound icon in the other. I think it is mainly for tourguide pois, but it works for alerts also.

Hope this helps.

Tourguide JPG and 2x5 Series

I associated a JPG file with a TourGuide POI in Extra POI Editor. When I loaded it onto my 255W with POI Loader it gave an error message saying the file is invalid. Then when accessing the POI file on the Garmin it says "No Matches Found". I had to remove the JPG link from the POI to get it to work again.

The JPG I tried to load was a fairly simple 480 x 232 image that I have been using as my startup screen so I know it will display on the device.

At this point I don't know why it is not working. I may try loading the JPG with MapSource instead of Extra POI Editor.
