Santa Ana, CA suspends red light cameras for 30 days

Santa Ana, CA has suspended ticketing with their red light cameras in Orange County, CA.

They had a number of tickets dismissed by a judge because they failed to give 30 days notice when they installed a new camera. They had been sued repeatedly and lost, so they decided to suspend the whole program (or at least the tickets) until 12/28/2009 at midnight, when they will start up again.

I wonder if they're going to

I wonder if they're going to give the 30 day notice this time?

not safe for 30 days

now, it is not safe there, according to the theory that red light camera increase the safety.

Hmm

Does this mean if someone gets hit by a red light runner, they'll end up suing the city because they turned off a "safety component" of the intersection. thereby making the intersection "unsafe"?

Great idea. The village of

Great idea. The village of Schaumburg, Illinois removed the red light cameras because they saw no decline in accidents. They also didn't want o lose shoppers since the camera was near Woodfield Mall and this mall is one of the nations largest.

Red Light Cameras

I think that they make it even more dangerous. If I do not kmnow if there is a Red Light Camera around and it goes off I flinch like lightening just hit near my car. Also if I know that there is a Red Light Camera coming up and the light starts to change I go from 30 to 100 mph just so I do not get the ticket.

Ticket cameras are on again.

The ticket cameras in Santa Ana, CA are enabled and issuing tickets again.

Its for your safety

I dont really undersatnd why people are so afraid of red light camera. See if you break the law , you have to pay. and on other end if some one else break the law, why should you pay your life? In both case its safe for your life. Red light camera is good for safety most of the time!
Even though the government and the camera company making money out of it, its you only who is breaking the law and paying tickets.
Simple rule. "Don't break the law and don't pay"

Not true at all.

Why, that's just not true at all.

In many instances a live cop would never ticket you for going slightly over the limit line, whereas the ticket camera company will mail you a ticket. You pay and they get more money, an inherent conflict of interest.

If cops got commission based on the fines from the citations they issue they would have a conflict of interest too. But they don't. Glad of that.

I like to face my accuser. I don't want a machine sending me a citation I may not be able to effectively fight.
