Scenic Route POI For Motorcycles around the Atlanta area

Anyone have a good POI that is just a very good scenic route outside the Atlanta, GA area? I like cruising the back roads, off the beaten path as far out in the sticks as possible. Don't necessarily want to leave GA to do a ride. Just want to get out of the hustle & bustle of the city for several hours.

Thank you

Thanks much appreciated.

Any direction.......

I get to Atlanta 3-4 times a year. From my experience, point your nose in ANY direction and just ride (not super-slab). Figure how much time you have and ride "out" for half that. Fire up the GPS and let it lead you home.

I found out the hard way that a Midwest, road every mile, going N-S or E-W, mentality serves you VERY poorly around Atlanta......cause it don't work like that there. My first exploration resulted in stopping to buy a map to get home......and even then it wasn't real easy.

Thank you

KA1167,
Thank you. I've been here over 20 years now and the first few weren't REALLY bad because I was on a bike and did exactly as you recommend. Stuck my nose in the wind and just went from there. I also and still do have a pretty good internal compass so I can always find my way home. But the back roads I've been hitting are old and getting built up really quickly. I keep hearing about this Dragons Tail ride but the more I hear about that the less I want anything to do with it. It just sounds like there is way too much traffic there. Guess I'm just going to have to do more exploration on my own.

Let me know........

.....what you find. I plan to bring the bike down next spring sometime (probably when the Cards play the Braves, unless it's too early).

I haven't been there on the bike yet, and only briefly in the car, but I'd think there should be some good rides around Stone Mountain....????

A GPS can take you where You want to go but never where you WANT to be.

Stone Mtn

I live in Snellville, just about 5 miles from STMtn. If you head South and East from there it pretty much nothing but neighborhoods and farms until you run into Conyers. About the only thing that isn't built up YET is a short stretch of Hwy124 between Snellville & Lithonia & then the other side of Lithonia South. Drop me a line before you head this way and I'll show you some of the routes I take when I want to get lost.

Well, THIS is embarassing; I could have sworn there was a Private Message function here.....but I don't see it now so........

I have a list of Atlanta/Rider contacts. Drop me a line at ka1167@yahoo.com and I'll add you to my list.
