Software update created a bias offset in location

The software update from about 2 weeks back, added about a 200 yard offset in bias to my Nuvi 200. I have the latest map updates due to lifetime and usually plug in about monthly to search for other updates. This time it changed something significant and the unit thinks an intersection is about 200 yards farther downrange than it really is. So i have to turn early. Has this happened to others? I have about 1 month left on warranty. It has never been dropped since I don't take out of car.

Model?

What model and map update do you have? Map 2010.20 etc.

Which software update?

I'm not aware of any software update being released for the Nuvi 200 for about a year. Other than maps, there has been no updates available for the 200 I gave my daughter back in June when I upgraded to the 885T.

Reset

It looks like you will need a hard reset. I had the same problem and called Garmin. They told me to do a reset and, sure enough, it fixed the problem.

datum?

Is there any chance the unit has somehow got set to a datum that far off from WGS84? I don't know where and how that unit allows for changes to this setting, but on my older units one could set a custom datum in addition to the many standard ones--most of the standard ones would not be anywhere near 200 yards off, I think.

What area did this happen in?

Rural, urban or near places with unfinished maps?

Did you do the hard reset as suggested by others here?

Yes I have had a simular problem . . .

When I bought my current nuvi 760 I added my via points and found about 80% to be off up to a 1/2 block. These were locations all made with my older Garmin Color Street Pilot 3. Purchased about 2003, maps were never updated but unit software was. At that time a copy of MapSource was provided. When I received my first map update for the nuvi it also installed in MapSource. I was able to switch from on map to the other, and the via points did indeed change location. Go figure. . . . Sorry t923347, you can't do a reset in MapSource. I suspect it had something to do with the way the DATUM was read.

Not yet, going to make sure

Not yet, going to make sure all waypoints are backed up first. Will be doing it shortly.

As for the offset, it is in cities, and the offset is any intersection or location it finds. So non-waypoint, non-custom entries are effected. I was so annoyed I have not noticed if the items in favorites are equally offset. So it is either just the garmin map or the map and the favories as well.

My 765T was the same

My home was 2 blocks farther down the road on my 765T than it was on my nuvi 360 with the same current version maps.

seems to have fixed it self

seems to have fixed it self and I didn't do a master reset. Now I am wondering if others had trouble and it was satelite or solar flares related.

Seems to be another firmware update and map update available for Nuvi200 or at least in last week.

Well now it has new problem.

Well now it has new problem. Many favorites in list have english name, and mandarin characters next to them.

Is there a new firmware for the 200?

I thought 5.00 was the latest?

myDashboard is the likely culprit

v5.00 *is* the latest firmware update for the nuvi 200. It's more than likely that these erroneous reports about "new firmware" are just the result of using myDashboard to check for & download updates. It will always state "downloading firmware" when it can in fact be downloading *anything* that has been updated, like voices, GPS Chipset updates, text file updates, etc, etc.

I wish Garmin would correct this silly generic "downloading firmware" message to correctly identify what exactly is being downloaded as it causes confusion when people report a "firmware update" because myDashboard said it installed one.

In the meantime, just use WebUpdater to check for updates. It tells you exactly what's being updated and gives the user the choice of what to download/update.

Just say NO to myDashboard rolleyes
