Various nuvi updates (not firmware related) released

There have been various nuvi updates released for different series/units in the past few days, of which none to my knowledge have actually been "firmware" or unit software updates.

One has been voice updates for various units which I reported here:

Another was released today, Nov 17 for the 7x5 series (at least):
Font,binary data, Arabic
Font,binary data, Arabic (Bold)
Localization Data, XML file

These are not substantial updates but are updates nonetheless. The reason I bring this up is that when myDashboard is used to install these updates, no indication is given as to what is being updated. Regardless of what is being updated via myDashboard, it will always state "updating firmware", even if just voices or updates as listed above are being updated.

It's my opinion that myDashboard is useful to check and see if an update is available for your unit. But it makes more sense to bypass myDashboard for the actual update and instead use WebUpdater for updating since it tells you exactly what is being updated and gives you the choice of what exactly to update.

Using WebUpdater may also help to reduce some of the false "new firmware update" reports that myDashboard seems to bring to the forums due to it's vagueness on what exactly is being updated.

Thanks for the timely information.
I wish Garmin would send us e-mails so we know what to expect.
I ran webupdater and updated the voice updates but when I ran mydashboard it ran additional updates and now that these updates are in place it seems that my Nuvi 855 has smoother driving and accurate location on the map.
Now the car on the map is actually on the correct intersection. Before the update the car would lag on the map. Could be coincidence but I'm glad for the update.

Thanks for the info.

AS GadgetMan said, I wish Garmin would keep us more informed.

I have signed up far any and all emails lists and notifications lists that Garmin provides, and have only received ONE notice in all the years I have been a Garmin owner.
