Nuvi 1350 any good?

Hi
I see target will have nuvi 1350 for $179 black friday.
It seems like a great price for a new model.
I currently have nuvi 750. I have no problems with it. I can use the lane assistance on the 1350.

Any good or bad comments on the 1350?
Should I upgrade or wait for a better model?

Thanks in advance

Try doing a compare

Go to the Garmin website and compare the features between the two units and see what you will be giving up to get the "new" features.

Every great profitable company tries to make its previous model of any product better and make you feel like you need the newest one.

now you feel like u need lane assist. once you get the gps wit lane assist they have an even better feature so on and so on .

Gps back then = take me where i want to go without getting lost

GPS now = take me where i want to go without getting lost while entertaining me with music, audio books, games to play when i get there, a phone so i can call whoever i want to while im driving and and hand to hold becuase when u SAY exit on left i need to SEE you point to the left.

A GPS can take you where You want to go but never where you WANT to be.

YMMV

Lane assist was important to me (I travel a lot, always seem to be in the wrong lane)... Not everyone seems to think it is a 'must have' option, so YMMV.

If you have a traffic receiver on your 750 it will not work with the 1350. I don't have a 1350 but I assume it will boot much faster than your 750 (I have a 765, starts much faster than the 780 I used to have). You'll also get the latest maps free within the first 60 days, so if you have a way to sell or redeploy the 750 it doesn't sound too bad at $179.

Too bad they don't let you test drive one for a week, it would be much easier to make a decision.

I switched from a 255W to a 1350T because of the lane assist feature. I'm pulling a 32 feet 5th wheel trailer a lot and it's important to me to be in the right lane. Sometimes when I find myself in the wrong lane there is not enough room to change lanes and Karen has to recalculate and takes me through small streets to get back on the highway. That's why.

First take 1350T

I just want to start by saying you don't have to do the whole black friday thing to get this for $179. I bought it at Tiger Direct for 189.99 with free shipping. I also purchased it using Bing Cash Back which got me around $12 bucks back.

So I literally just took this unit out of the box and set it up two minutes ago. From its first appearance it seems well made, and much slimmer than I thought it would be. The FM receiver is part of the power cord and the connector on the power cord is mini USB. Garmin does not provide a USB cable or disk based software in the box. So root through a drawer and find a cable that is data capable not just power capable. The suction cup seems pretty standard. I do prefer the mechanical cup assist which this has.

When you connect the GPS to the laptop it will take you through a bunch of prompts that will install software from the web. Then it gave me the opportunity to download map updates. At first it looked like I was going to have to pay for the map updates which had me pretty hot under the collar, but I soon saw that map updates are free for the first sixty days.

My laptop proceeded to download two gigs of data which actually didn't take too long. What did take a while was pushing the data out to the GPS. No big deal, it needs to charge anyway! I did notice that there is no indicator LED. It would be nice to have an indicator for charging, data transfer, Power on/off. For Example when the GPS is plugged into the laptop charging it does not indicate when it is finished. That is something a multicolor LED could tell you.

Once everything was set up and the GPS ready to use I started punching in addresses to set my home and favorites. THIS IS IMPORTANT. The screen was not calibrated. The help menu in the GPS does reference this issue and gives a solution BUT the solution is wrong. Here is the correct procedure.

1) Turn off GPS
2) Place finger in upper left hand corner of screen and leave it there.
3) Turn on GPS
4) After several seconds the calibration screen will appear and the rest is self explanitory.

It does work much better after the calibration. I do find the onscreen buttons to be on the small side. I am used to using a TOMTOM with a smaller screen which never seemed to have small buttons. Since i haven't used this unit other than entering data I can only say that so far my old TomTom was more intuitive. I will follow up in a couple weeks with more review info.

The Nuvi 1350 is a great device,
especially with the newest software V3.40
In early versions, possible crashes while navigating.
Lane assistance is super.
I have no experience with older devices, but it seems the new nuvi series display almost no POIs while navigating.
