Garmin 755T $199.99 at Costco

Nuvi 755t

In the past few months several issues were reported on the Nuvi 755T. Does anyone know if they have been fixed / resolved through the firmware update(s)?

Otherwise for $199.99 this is a terrific buy.

Be careful since Amazon has

Be careful since Amazon has it for $206 no TAX and FREE shipping.

great deal

I paid $270 for a refurb 3 months ago, so this is a great deal.

Costco return policy is awesome

How would you compare the lifetime return policy at Costco to Amazon? For even $20 more I would buy it from Costco for their fantastic return policy if anything goes wrong with the device.

Tax and amazon

Amazon does charge tax in some states.

Too late........

I saw this earlier online and was going to post it here but had to go out for a while. When I got home I came here to post it but I see that I'm way too late. Gotta love this place. smile

You are correct....they charge tax in Washington(Not sure what other states) but would buy from Costco no matter what for a few bucks more...

755T is solid.

My 755T has worked perfectly since the 3.60 firmware came out in June ... no issues with anything. There is a lengthy discussion on another forum about routing complaints on the 7xx series, where some users feel the nuvi is creating less than optimal routes. This problem hasn't really affected me, and it is easy to add a via point or two if you want to alter the route that the nuvi creates.

Costco return policy

Be careful with the so called "lifetime" return policy. They have started to tighten up and have refused returns and have eliminated members who return too many items. I guess not many read the fine print. Be careful with the items in the electronics section.

A hint

Costco includes shipping in the price. wink

Go to the website....$7.99 for shipping....would still buy from Costco...

I would look at 3

I would look at 3 options:

1) buy from a retailer that you can purchase a extended warranty
2) buy from Costco before they limit your returns to 90 days(just like they did with TV's, and Ipods)
3) buy from Sams Club

Remember price is not always the only decision

Good luck with the purchase.

Warranty

For those worried about warranties, check the fine print on your AMEX card. They extend the factory warranty on items if the entire cost of the item was made with the card...and Costco takes AMEX. Since there are so many AMEX cards, you'd have to check for your benefits by type; blue, gold, platinum, etc.

I agree with using a retailer who accepts returns easily

The main thing is to by from a company that will allow you to return it. Often companies charge restalking fees. Costco and Sam's Club do not. That is another consideration.

Touch Screen problems with Nuvi 755T

I purchased the 199.99 Nuvi 755T from costco. It worked fine for the first few weeks and now I am having problems. The touchscreen is like a slot machine in Vegas. Once you push the letter or number it is a mystery what will end up on the screen. I just downloaded software version 2.90. I tested the GPS out and still having the same problems with the touch screen. I noticed many reviews on the Costco website that many people are having problems with the touchscreen on the 755T. I have sent Garmin a email to Tech support and will have to see what they say. I will let everyone know.

However, I was looking at the 785T that Costco has listed for only $30 more.

Touch Screen problems with Nuvi 755T

Hmm...Costco you say! I bought the same one 2 weeks ago from Costco in Canada and had same problem. You can read all about it in my posts. Gary Hayman tells me his is just fine, only one that did BTW. You can't beat their return policy, i'd take it back, just like i did. There are only 3 models that do all the things i want. 755t, 765t, 775t. Compare them on Garmins web site before you get the 785t. I got the 765t, on sale for the same price i paid for the 755t. Haven't had i glitch yet, but i haven't upgraded the firmware yet laugh out loud

755

Great price.

returns

I am a Costco member and have never returned anything there, so I don't even know what their policy is. Up until 2 years ago, I could say I've never had to return anything. However, quality is seemingly going down on many products.

40" LCD out of the box not working, the brand that is the official tv of the NFL

Denon receiver no B speakers out of the box

Hedge trimmer breaks upon first use (now that was a return refused by that big orange home center store--a 70 y.o. retiree made the decision--I told him I will certainly be contacting Atlanta home office, then they want to give me a gift card instead of a credit to my Visa. After mentioning Atlanta again they credited my card--they are bullies)

Anyhow, having never returned anything at Costco before, I would imagine they'd be pretty good in based on my experience with them.

They bump up warranties on tv's to 2 years (have yet to buy one), they can sell the tires for my car that are $371 each, and they accept their own AMEX which offers a 3% gas rebate and 1% at the store. Good outfit imho.....

7x5 touch screen problems

Geojeep wrote:

Just realize that the 785T is currently the only 7x5 nuvi that has been discontinued. That is because it comes with a MSN Direct traffic cable. MSN Direct will be discontinued in Jan. 2012 and to date no alternative service has been announced that will use this traffic cable.

In terms of your touch screen problems, similar problems have been reported on all four 7x5 models, so changing from 755T to 785T may or may not help. It seems to depend on the specific unit you get. If you haven't done so already, do a hard reset on your unit and go through the screen calibration a couple of times using a stylus to get very precise presses.

I never got a email from Garmin tech support. I decided to call in and wait the 45 minutes. The tech support guy that I spoke to was Ryan Searcy. Ryan informed me that the 755 often has problems with the touch screen. The only way to fix the problem, if the calibration does not work, is to replace the unit. I was advised to send it back to Garmin for a replacement or take it back to CostCo.

Screen

Of the many reports I have read, there seems to be some screens worse than others. In my case, what has helped tremendously is to:

1. Use a stylus to carefully recalibrate the screen.

2. When using the unit, pushing hard on the screen rather than soft actually makes more accurate entries.

Touch screen

I have about 3 post concerning one thing or another on the 755t to be specific, but yes it does seem to be specific units. I had this unit for about 2 weeks, garmin was very helpful in trying to resolve my issue. I did the stylus touch screen calibration which didn't help me. Around the house it it was better than using my finger, but I wasn't even going to consider this an option driving. Garmin never admitted there was a problem with the 7x5's. They did offer me a replacement. Since i bought it from Costco online, it was an easy thing to get it replaced. Take it to the store, get refund buy another one online. By chance i looked to see what they had, normally they have like 255's, which i didn't want. Must have gotten new stock cause they had 765t's and 1490t's. I bought the 765t and never looked back. No issues, maybe a bit slow changing screens once in a while but that's it. There are people in the Forums that will tell you their's work fine. If you bought it at costco return it and get another till you get one that works. No brainer with their return policy. I heard today from my friend who has the 1490t that his Cell won't work with it. Garmin says his phone is too new. No idea how you would know before you buy a blue-tooth compatible.

My touch screen is fussy

I got the 755 at costco.com, and it has a funny touchscreen.
I got one for my wife too, but she wants to return it, without having used it. I might try that one before I return it, to see if it has a better screen. If not, I might just get a different one altogether.

When looking for electronics, I look to costco first because of the hassle-free experience I've had with returns. Other stores are a less pleasant experience for me.

Truth is that our government here in B.C. Canada showed the World when we advertised for this years Olympics in torino Italy with guys storming around in snow mobiles and showing totem poles. Well ya we have those things. But that's up north, way north. Like 3 hrs. from here. There are trails in the bush. You can't use snow mobiles in town. Those things aren't licensed. We have the same weather here like Seattle. Rains all the time. Many people believe we live in igloo's. LOL i've never seen one for real.

Costco is usually the first place I look for things because of their return policy. Great place.

Costco

I bought my GARMIN online from Costco. I have greater confidence in Costco than other vendors due to their return policy and that they pay their workers a living wage (unlike that corrupt operation that starts with a W and does not even provide medical benefits).
