Nuvi 350 - Upgrade maps/new unit?

Hi everyone.

I currently have a Nuvi 350 which has been working fine. The thing I was contemplating was upgrading the maps on the curreent unit (2008 maps) or getting a brand new unit (255w) at one of the Black Friday sales.

If I upgrade to the 2010 maps then do I need a SD card or will the maps fit in internal memory on the 350? If I upgrade to thee 255W then I'll have a brand new unit and I'm eligible for map upgrades.

One time map upgrade is $54.99
Lifetime maps $95
New unit $130-$150

Any opinions?

Thanks

Maps

For the cost of the maps, it seems like a better deal just to buy a new one and give the old one to someone in your family or sell it on EBay. I've been contemplating the same thing.

Since you asked...

I'd go for the new unit with the free map upgrade. That saves you $55 + taxes right there. So, the unit comes in at under $100 for all the new features. However, compare it with the 265W and see if there's anything else it may have you would use before you buy it.

I do a lot of research on my major purchases to make sure I don't make a decision in haste.

I have a 350...

...and upgraded the maps to the 2010. I don't know if that was the right move or not. It's 3 years old, and on occasion it freezes up while recalculating a route, and I have to reset it. The battery is showing its age too, but I only use it plugged in while in the car, so who cares.

But, I'm opposed to the total concept of creating ever more electronic trash by buying the latest and greatest. My Yankee heritage of 'Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without' is still with me. I also rebel against the notion of throwing away, or even selling on ebay, or giving to a relative, a gadget that cost me $550. in 2006. I don't know how rich you are, but that's a lot of money to me.

Bottom line: there's the financial consideration. And the gee-whiz electronic toy consideration. And then there's cultural choices. The last made my choice.

350 and 2010 Maps

I've had a 350 from day one. I updated it to the 2010 maps with no problem. I did not put them on an SD card. I just downloaded them into the unit itself. I have had no problems with the unit locking up.

Nextohel, where'd you get that great image

...to go with your name? Your creation, or did you find that somewhere?

I cannot honestly take credit for it. I found it somewhere on the net. It kind of reflects my job. I wear a patch, but not that one.

.

In the same boat. The 350 just takes too long to acquire a satellite and it's getting worse. We got a 265T and it's so much faster. The speech is not as good but good enough to understand. I love the upcoming turn arrow, very helpful. The traffic is worthless to me, the 255 is a better deal if you don't want traffic or the double thick power cord. See if you can try a 255 and give it a test drive.

A 370, 360 (2) and a 350. I have had no problems with any of them. They work just fine, and you know what, they do what was advertised they would do, THEY GET ME THERE!! When I call Gsrmin, there is always a recorded message that says,
"If you are haveing trouble with your Garmin model......." Now why on earth would I spend additional funds just to get the newest bells and whistles, just for the benefit of notoriety like that/

...just my thoughts.

Same Thing Here

I have a Nuvi 350 too. Still works great & I discover new things that it will do at the POI Factory each year.

Until Garmin clears up a few problems with their capabilities, I'll stick to the 350.

Wow

Still a lot of 350 owners out there.

I think I'm going to keep mine and hold out for a SuperNuvi(refurb) smile
