Subject: mportant Notice: MSN Direct service will be available only until January 1, 2012

Dear valued MSN® Direct One-Time Payment customer,

We are writing to let you know that MSN Direct service will no longer be available after January 1st, 2012. To continue to receive service until then there is no action required on your part. You will automatically continue to enjoy the full benefits of MSN Direct, along with service and support, up until that date.

Changes in the marketplace, device capability and alternative network availability have all contributed to reduced demand for the MSN Direct services. Despite good initial adoption, Microsoft has made the decision to end transmission of MSN Direct services on January 1st, 2012.

One-Time Payment customers will automatically receive a prorated refund after January 1st, 2012 to the credit card account we have on file, for any unused portion of their subscription. No action is required for eligible customers to receive this refund. The unused portion for the One-Time Payment is calculated based on a 3-year term from the time of purchase. To update your billing information, please visit Billing & Account Management. More information on refund requests and MSN Direct services can be found at: http://www.msndirect.com/MSNDirectServiceAnnouncement.aspx.

Thank you for using MSN Direct services.

I wonder how Garmin and the others will sell the features on the units during this time frame?

Will MSN still take new accounts?? and our money until then??

This notice leaves numerous questions un-answered, IMHO!

MSN Direct

I received the same e-mail and was wondering if there will be another service that will take it's place. I used it going from Arizona to Florida and it was a great help. Will garmin do anything to help it users? I hope so if not will have to purchase a new GPS maybe not a garmin. A friend of mine purchased a GPS several years ago but they quit making the one he bought but it shows gas prices and pertinent info. without MSN direct.

If I remember right, you only need to purchase a new receiver to use the FM service which is built into the power cord.

I try not to be too anal about this stuff, but do we really need five threads on the topic?

How about we agree that all further discussion be added to one of the others . . I suggest it be:

Virgo 53 and others with questions about MSN Direct,..

initiate a search (MSN Direct)in the box at the top of this page and you can see the discussion and answers to some of your questions from the thread that began back in mid-October. Many of the subscribers got hardcopy or email a few weeks ago about this change. I wonder why you were not notified sooner.

I hope this helps.

I cancelled my MSN Direct

I cancelled my MSN Direct and bought the FM receiver for the NUVI 855. Traffic resolved.

Over

Oh well, MS strikes again. Same way They turn their back on XP and soon to be Vista.

As predicted...

Both Nostradamus and the Mayan Calendar has predicted this end of course. It may also be mentioned in the 2012 movie opening this weekend!!! wink

Traffic

Could you tell me if FM Traffic is as good or better than MSN. Thanks

All we can tell you

Is it isn't the same. What you get out of FM traffic will depend on who you go with and the area. Some times the TRAFFIC is better with one than the other, but they don't have the other services.

It's very good. In most areas most, if not all, traffic data is generated by the state. The distribution method is not that big a deal. MSN simply offered a good deal more than traffic - but on traffic reports only I doubt anyone could tell the difference between FM and MSN within the same Garmin.

FM vs MSN

You may be right about this, but I think you will find the anecdotal evidence in this and other forums doesn't support your statement. It seems in general that MSN gets better reviews than FM on traffic reporting reliability.
