I downloaded USA campground locations in Excel format. My garmin uses degrees for lat. & long. The files first two columns have numbers that are probably lat. & long. but are in straight numeric form.

Decimal format
Use the decimal format in your Garmin. It'll work.

The negative values can also be expressed as E for longitude and S for latitude. When entering decimal coordinates into your unit, you need to state N and E for North America.

Enter the longitude without the minus sign and W for West.
In CSV and GPX files, the negative number for longitude indicate degrees West.
From the Garmin POI Loader HELP file: "Longitude and latitude must appear in WGS84 decimal degrees format (ddd.ddddd; negative numbers indicate West and South)"
