Too much tapping to get to custom POI addresses on a nuvi 255W

I have a Garmin nuvi 255W. To get to the address of a Starbuck's custom POI, I need to tap as follows:

Tap 1: Where to?-->
Tap 2: '[down arrow]'-->
Tap 3: Extras-->
Tap 4: Custom POIs-->
Taps 5-13: [down arrow] 9 times -->
Tap 14: Starbucks:Anytown (Memorize the position of this entry if there are multiple entries for this town)-->
Tap 15: More-->
Tap 16: Read the address, then tap Back-->
Tap 17:

  • If it's the one that I want, then tap Go!

  • If it's not the one that I want, then I must tap
    Back, and go back to Tap 14 to process the next
    entry after the memorized entry for Starbucks:Anytown.

    Isn't there a better way?

    If this is the correct method, is this a design problem with all Garmins or just the 255W?

    Sounds like you are doing it

    Sounds like you are doing it right to me. What alternative(s) would you suggest?

    If your main (most popular) search of Custom POIs

    If your main (most popular) search of Custom POIs happens to be Starbucks - then you could rename Starbucks using a hyphen ("-") before the filename. Then "- Starbucks" would list first on your Custom POIs list in Extras. Our you could rename the file "Coffee - Starbucks", which would have it list among the first since "C" comes before "S" in hierarchy.

    ------------------------

    Here's a nice little tip you might consider:

    I create a sub-folder for any files I don't want to see on the Custom POI list and would require that I click thru them until I find what I want, (e.g. red light cameras, speed cameras, rest stops, new time zone, etc.). I just don't ever need to see those files... (The only file in my sub-folder I might want to see would be "rest stops", but that would be very seldom.

    I name this sub-folder (holding all the files I don't want to see on the Custom POI list) with a name that begins with a letter late in the alphabet. I happen to use "Unseen Alerts". Thus, the sub-folder (that begins with a "U") is last on the list of Custom POIs and holds (hides) all the various files I never need to see.

    Extras?

    I have never understood Garmin's nesting of Custom POI's in Extras, requiring the extra click. Maybe there is something else that goes in Extras, but I have not found it. I think they could just eliminate Extras and put Custom POI's one level up in the menu hierarchy.

    Agree

    I agree, eliminate the Extras and put Custom POIs one level up.

    While their at it move the Custom POIs to first screen so it lists Address, Go Home Points of Interest, Recently Found, Favorites and Custom POIs

    Thank you!

    Thank you, Koot, for the excellent ideas! smile I will be implementing them at my first free time.

    And thank you for the others that responded, especially for Garmin to remove unnecessary levels. Also, it seems fairly straight forward to move each address out of the "more" level to the city level (at least from a user viewpoint).

    Looks like I will offer Garmin some enhancement ideas. Maybe we can get them to download them in a future release.

    Have you tried...?

    Just adding them to a favorite in that category? Or, looking under Recently Found? It's by far quicker to create your own shortcuts!

    I also have another sub-folder which holds a group

    I also have another sub-folder which holds a group of Custom POI files for motel chains I like to stay at. These six different motel chain POIs are six custom POIs I don't want to [have to] click thru, therefore I put them all into a sub-folder where one click gets me past the sub-folder holding the six motel POIs.
