Passing Lanes

From time to time I know we have all been there, stuck behind you guessed it Grand Ma & Grand Pa. I know, I know I'll be there some day but for right now I would like to get to my destination at a reasonable time before I go completely gray or wreck, has anyone done a POI file on "Passing Lanes"? in Arizona?

High Beams

Try the tried and true Euro way: flashing the high beams. I realize it doesn't work all the time but 99.9% it does.

Those Star Trek deflector beams should be standard equipment here in Florida. grin

I understand the situation.....in Illinois and several other states, blocking the left lane of a multi-lane road is illegal.

I don't understand what it is that you are asking about though. Is there something unique about "passing lanes" in Arizona ?? What possible advantage would it be to have them in a POI file?? It certainly wouldn't help get "Granny" out of the way.

"Passing Lanes"

When out of the greater metro PHX area a lot of multiple lane roads go into single lane both ways divided with a double yellow with an occasional broken yellow strips for passing. Theses broken yellow strips usually occur when oncoming traffic is coming your way and you are still stuck behind Granny. Having a poi file telling me when my single lane is going open up to a two lane "Passing Lane" would keep me from making a bad move, if I knew I'd only be stuck behind Granny for the next mile. A POI file on passing lanes would help me when I should decide to pass Granny.

@azslycat

Just to give you an idea of the monumental task it would be to create and maintain such a file, why don't you contact AZDOT and ask them for the location of all the passing zones on two lane AZ highways in the Phoenix District? You may want to start with the Phoenix District Office. They can be reached through the main number at (602) 712-7011.
