Dead Garmin 2XX wanted...

Hello,

My first post on your forum!

I purchased two Garmin Nuvi 260's locally - both had a broken USB connector on the PCB.

I was able to resolder one to the board and it works as expected. The other one will require a replacement USB connector.

It appears the connector may be proprietary in design and unique to the Garmin manufacturing process, so I'm looking for a reasonably priced dead 200 series GPS, or if someone has one available - just the connector would suffice.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!

ps. Thanks to the great content on this site - I was able to load approx 400 customer locations (POI's) into my 260 with proximity alerts for our sales representative.

USB Connector

--
If you ain't got pictures, I wasn't there.

Darn the luck...

Thanks Alpine for the great reference!

I wasn't aware there were so many different Mini B USB connectors to choose from.

Unfortuanately for me... the one I'm in need of was not one of the 847 listed.

So, I guess I'm back to looking for a dead Nuvi 2XX or PCB board with an intact connector that I might be able to cannabalize for use on mine.

Thanks again,

GP

I've got a dead Garmin 250W

I've got a dead Garmin 250W all intact, only thing wrong is the ribbon connector inside broke loose. It was a fantastic unit, but when that cable came loose I decided just to upgrade.

If you wish for me to send along contact me on e-mail and you can send me your mailing address.

No charge at all for the unit, I'll send along the non working unit within a couple of days and if shipping isn't too expensive I'll even throw that in for you.

Thank you!

I've sent an email with my shipping address and I'd be happy to cover cost of shipping for the dead unit.

Thanks again Sudz

Interesting. Let us know if you can fix it.

are you able to fix and

are you able to fix and resolder replacement speakers? My Nuvi 350 has been "speechless" for a LONG time...

Will do...

NuviC320,

I was able to fix one of the two I purchased with the USB connector problem. Unit #1 had only come loose from the PCB so all I had to do was resolder the attach pad(s); thru-pin(s) and the front edge of the connector back to the board.

On the other Unit # 2 the USB connector had actually broken off of the PCB and one of the attach pins was missing and two of the (5) data pins were broken inside the connector - so it was beyond hope.

I'm not certain if I can fix it or not with a replacment connector.

Would be much easier if I could find a source for new connectors instead of having to canabalize one from a broken unit.

Knowing which company in Taiwan manfuactures the PCB would be of help - if anyone is inclined to share...

Hey Snoopyy

I don't know anything about replacing speakers on a N350.

Next time I'm under the hood on my N260 I'll take a look at the speaker connection and see what it takes to replace it - who knows - could be a simple friction fit connection and may not require soldering. That's not to say yours will be the same.

I'm betting though - that the hard part will be finding a replacement speaker.

For some reason - it's difficult to find parts for the Nuvi 260 series. Reminds me of how Apple used to build computers.

Speaker Update

Snoopy,

I took at look at my speaker today and it is a friction mounted connector (on my 260) so it may be possible to remove and replace your speaker.

Send me an email and I'll send you an address you can send it to.

DorkusNimrod

Thanks for the reference - they have a great selection and nice "search" interface to their listings.

unfortunately for me - the one I'm looking for is not listed.

I'm still looking for a Dead Nuvi series 2xx if anyone has one...

Try ebay ive seen dead units listed there

Thanks LampLighter

I had been "watching" a dozen or so on ebay for a while and finally found one at the right price with the right parts broken.

Won the auction so will see if I can fix mine with it or not.

Thanks again,
