Streets & Trips

Thanks for the review. Can anyone compare it to Delorme's Street Atlas USA? I have a very old version (2004)& have thought of updating it.

Thanks.

and I'm sorry I bought it. It is SO OUT OF DATE it is pathetic. My 2004 Mappoint has streets in my area that are missing from DeLorme's software that have been in place for 15 years.

That has been my observation

That has been my observation also. I have both and S&T seems much more up to date.

S&T 2010 is great for POI collectors

Here is why I'm excited about 2010.

For the first time, you can show/hide POI collections in Streets & Trips. This really helps remove map clutter.

Also, there is now GPX support for both import and export. No limits to the number of waypoints.

You can easily copy lat-long coordinates by pressing Ctrl+Alt+C to your clipboard.

You can also easily send your route and waypoint/POI information from S&T to your Garmin which is convenient for those folks who have both.

Download it (1.7GB) and give it a try for 60 days for free: http://tinyurl.com/ST2010Download

It's Also Good

It's also good for editing an existing GPX file. Say you have the Wal-mart stores in the US GPX file and you want to pair it down to just those stores in the New England states. S&T 2010 works great for this.

Open S&T and then 'import' the gpx file into a new map. All of the locations will appear as 'pushpins' in S&T. Now right drag to form a box over all of the US to west of Chicago, for example, and then right click and select 'Delete visible pushpins inside area'. Repeat this process, zooming the map in and out as required until all of the pushpins have been deleted except the ones for the New England states.

The final step is to 'Export To GPX file' from the data menu and save the file with a different name than the original, for example New England Wal-Mart.gpx. Now you can use POIloader to load this new file which will be much smaller and cover only the area your interested in.

Removing POI's from S&T 2010

I have no problem using the data wizard to import POI files, but how does one remove them once they are imported?

I don't mean hide them, but actually removing/deleting them from S&T without actually uninstalling the program?

Thanks!

Removing POI's from S&T 2010

Not sure why you want to delet the imported poi's. If you delete the map you imported them to then they will be gone,or open up a new map then they won't show on the new map. I use 2009 and that is how it works there.

S&T 2010 looks pretty good

Thanks for the review. I'll add the software to my Christmas list for SWMBO to pick from.

Removing POI's from S&T 2010

The reason I want to delete the imported POI's is because some of them I did not import correctly using the Import Wizard.

Therefore I wanted to be ale to select the incorrect POI's (or imported file) and correct them.

So how do you delete the map that the POI's were imported to? I am just a basic user of S&T and not an expert at all.

Thanks!

Removing POI's from S&T 2010

Under stand now. Go to my documents and find the file ms streets. Double click to open and then find the map that you saved the poi's to and delete it then you can start over. Good Luck smile

How to delete unwanted POI (pushpin sets) in Streets & Trips

If you want to DELETE a pushin set that you have imported rather than just HIDE it here is how to do it:

1. In S&T open the 'Legend and overview' pane
2. Click on the name of the pp set to delete
3. Press the delete key on your keyboard

Hope that helps,
Larry

S+T

I used to use S+T a lot and still have the 2005 version installed. Is stopped using it after I got my Garmin and Mapsource. The 2010 release and the new features sound very promising. I will give the demo a try.

Thanks for the review

I had an old trial version of S&T that came with a new Dell. I did not have much use for it at the time, but this new version sounds like a step up from Map Source with the new features.

Trip Planner

I have used Streets & Trips as a trip planning tool for years. Since getting my GPS I am not overly concerned about how up-to-date the POIs are, and use it mostly for comparing options in routes and such.

I have 2007 and downloaded a trial version of 2009 but didn't like it much. The review was very helpful in identifying improvements and even pointed out a few weaknesses. Nice to know.

I will add 2010 to my Christmas wish list.

Demo trial

I downloaded the demo and have been using S+T 2010 for a few weeks now. I have to say that I like it. The GPX import/export feature is nice. I still mainly use Mapsource for actually creating the route and uploading the route to my GPS, though. I haven't tried the direct upload from S+T to GPS, but it seems pretty easy. It's definitely more user-friendly than Mapsource. The only thing I don't like is that I can't use my GPS as a GPSr with S+T. It will only recognize the NMEA standard and not recognize the Garmin protocol when connected through USB.
Other than that I like S+T.

F1fan - You can use your Nuvi with S & T 2010

You can use a program called GPSgate so you can use your Nuvi with S&T 2010. You can get a fully functional trial version of GPSgate from http://franson.com/gpsgate/ . The trial is good for 14 days and then it costs $39.95 to purchase it.

You can see the process for setting this up from my post at http://tinyurl.com/ydww5yg

t923347,
Thanks for the tip with GPSgate. That would seem to do the trick. I do have a Zumo and not a Nuvi, but it shouldn't make a difference.

Btw, I uploaded a route from S+T directly to the Zumo and all it uploaded were the waypoints. It didn't upload the actual route as in Mapsource. I guess I could use the waypoints then to create the route in the GPS, but what's the point. The export to GPX seems to be the better solution.
