Right now I have 2009 maps in my 250W ,now when I turn it on it shows I should update to 2010 maps,(not free),I was hoping to download the 2011 maps when available, any advantage to waiting?

Depending how new it is

you may get a free download. If so, I would update it and then decide if you want the 2011 when it becomes available.
Otherwise, I'd just wait. My 2 cents.

2010 or 2011

The message does not indicate free , I updated last year with the 2009 version ,but from what I have seen in this forum 2010 isn't the most popular,so I thought I would wait for possibly a (better) update as in more current.

You will have to wait until probably April of next year for the 2011 maps. I've been using the 2010 maps since last April and see no problem with them. If you can wait 8 more months, maybe you should consider if you really need any update.

If there is any chance you will want to buy map updates at least twice before you buy a new unit, why not go with NuMaps lifetime? It will cost less and you will always have the latest maps.

My son and I both have 755T's purchased in Oct 2008. I have NuMaps Lifetime so I have the the latest 2010.2 maps. He did not buy map updates, so his 755T still has the original 2009 maps. I was helping him recently by copying some POI's, waypoints, routes, etc from my Garmin to his, and was surprised how out of date his map was compared to mine (missing roads, speed limits that have been changed, incorrect and missing built in POI's, etc.). I didn't notice that many changes in each map update at the time I installed it, but the cumulative effect of the 3 quarterly updates is surprising.

2010.20

I have this version and so far haven't been anywhere in town that seems to have been updated from 2009. Course I'm in a town that may not have all that many changes so guess the decision to upgrade can vary

Well, it's just up to 60 days after first acquiring satellites. So don't wait too long, otherwise the offer will expire. And you won't have any update!

Not 2010.10

I have 2010.10 and it gave me a really bad time in my trip to the east coast and back. I don't recommend it to anyone.

Mine has the update map but it's missing lots of stuff.
Refirb nuvi 205 bought about 6 months ago.

my 2009 map is better than my new 2010.10 map

I got my new 1035T with 1yr. free upgrade to 2010.10 maps... i cant find some of the streets that are there in my old SP c550 (2009 maps) I regrets having upgraded it to 2010 maps. I guess I should stick to my old SP.
