First of all, you really can't expect an answer within a half hour of you posting the question.

Secondly, I have had experience with bad product keys on a map update and Garmin were able to correct the problem quickly once I talked to them. I find your experience a bit strange. If you have the Nuvi registered with Garmin they should be able to remedy any problems with product key errors.

Thirdly, you seem to have now deleted files from the Nuvi so I'm not sure how anyone could have had the same issue. What files did you delete? Have you got a backup?

Finally, where did you purchase the update from? If not from Garmin or an authorized dealer it maybe a pirated copy that simply isn't going to work for you. Personally I have never been able to update the maps on a Nuvi without being asked for a product key. Again, your experience is strange.

Call Garmin again and tell them your Nuvi is not working properly. They will connect to your computer and try to fix your Nuvi remotely.

Well I didn't delete anything, I just put a bunch files inside.

I called them twice, they said I better go to a dealer and let them check it for me.

What are your current symptoms? Error messages? Does it boot up? Is it recognized when you connect it to the computer?

Something doesn't sound right here. I have never heard of someone calling Garmin and Garmin telling the person to "take it to a dealer and let them check it".

I do believe you are making stuff up.

That's exactly what they told me, said they never have problem like this, so they want me to take the gps to the dealer and let them check it.

Why would I make up something like this, I need and I want this thing fixed more than anyone else.

I downloaded the map from the website, installed it and the setup program says I could disconnect the GPS and use the map. I did so but the GPS shows "can't unlock maps". So I went online and try to unlock the map, but it gives me "Invalid Product Key". I called Garmin and they said the product key is correct. And they checked with me, everything is right. So they don't know what happen and said I could either send them the machine or go to the dealer.

and alandb, just for your information, the gps works well, it just won't show me the map....

Go to tools and check if the map is selected. It should have a check by the title.

When I go to mapsource, it says couldn't find any installed mapsource product.

1. you say you bought a 2009 update. Where did you buy it from - EBay?

2. Are maps displayed on the Nuvi? I don't care about Mapsource. Mapsource is the least of your problems. If you bought 2009 maps from a private party, you just threw the money away as the map can only be used once - and on a specific unit i.e. the one it was ORIGINALLY purchased for.

Take it to a dealer? Garmin dealers sell Garmin products, they don't repair them. That doesn't make any sense that they would tell you to take it to a dealer for repair. Now sending in the unit sounds like what they would have told you. Also having them connect to your unit via phone line makes sense too. Would you call them back and have then hook up to your unit?

Personally I have never heard of a Garmin rep tell anyone to take the unit to a dealer. Usually if they can't fix an issue they say send it into us for repair or replacement. Maybe they have run out of the old 660's

bendtyo, call them back. Whoever told you to take it to a dealer either is too new on the job to know how to fix your problem or just not real bright. You may well find another rep. will help you out a lot more.

I restored everything following their instruction. Now the mapsource is working, but I still could't unlock the product. Maybe I should just send them the gps and get a replacement or sth.

Alright guys!! I solved it. I just tried to put the previous product key into the files inside the garmin folder. And it works. And the map is the latest. I don't know why tho! ^_^

even though your problem had the hint of piracy, or else the very first time you called Garmin you would have the problem you had solved, with a Garmin CSR.

At any rate Glade you worked it out!

It sounds as if they are in a non-US country, like England where the retailer is responsible for repairs etc....
